In the state of Montana, how likely is it that I’ll get jail time over $85 worth of socks? I have to make a court appearance within this month and next month. Will they just fine me? Should I go through with a public defender or get a real lawyer? What do I tell the judge/what can I say to reduce the severity? I really do not want any jail time even if it’s a week.

Hey everyone, I just hit what I think was a piece of wood on a highway at around 70mph, I pulled over as soon as I could and took a video of the damage. Can someone more knowledgeable tell me how badly I need to get it fixed up. I’m currently moving from fl to Montana and this just happened in New Mexico. Nothing is leaking which is somewhat a relief, however please tell me what you guys think.
Should I be worried? I popped my hood to check my dip stick since I just finished up an oil change and I noticed the battery bracket is broken somehow, i ended up taking it off I’m just not sure if I should leave it off or try and fix it. it looks to be an easy fix but is it even worth it?
