Is Plasma 6.7 a sorcery?

I don't know if its just me but every time Plasma gets updated, the breeze dark theme seems to get darker. Anyways that's not the point of this post.

Diest thing, everything looks crispy. I had dual booted it alongside windows and for some reason windows always looked more crispy than linux, Linux always looks little blurry.

I don't know if its the update or the qt env var i changed following a blog post about removing blurriness in plasma. Anyways Great work Kde team.

Exploring Poppler internals for a Dark Reader feature in Okular

I was experimenting with adding a Dark Reader–style mode to Okular for PDF documents.

The goal was to darken the page while keeping embedded images untouched. The existing accessibility color modes recolor every pixel, so photos, screenshots, and other raster images also get inverted or recolored, which isn't ideal.

My first implementation worked by post-processing the rendered page. Since Poppler gives you a flattened bitmap through renderToImage(), I used a simple chroma heuristic: recolor near-grayscale pixels (assuming they're text/background) and leave colorful pixels alone. It actually worked reasonably well, but grayscale or muted-color images could still get recolored, which is an unavoidable limitation of that approach.

So I tried to be more hacky.

Instead of modifying the final rasterized image, I tried working inside Poppler before everything gets flattened. From what I understood, poppler-qt6 only exposes Page::renderToImage(), but Poppler's core library has the OutputDev API (SplashOutputDev, CairoOutputDev, etc.), where the renderer still knows whether it's drawing text, vector graphics, or embedded images. My idea was to hook in there so I could recolor only text/vector content while leaving raster images completely untouched.

Unfortunately, I couldn't get it working the way I wanted. The result was basically just a grayscale/black-and-white rendering instead of the Dark Reader–style effect I was aiming for.

Has anyone here worked with Poppler's OutputDev API or implemented something similar? Is this the right direction, or is there a better approach for separating text/vector content from images during rendering?

The code is here if anyone is curious or wants to point out where I'm going wrong:
https://github.com/JustBipin/okular

Note: I'm not familiar with the C++ ecosystem at all, so I leaned pretty heavily on Zed Editor's free AI to help build the feature. I eventually ran out of free usage though. 😿 Any guidance from people who know Poppler or Okular's rendering pipeline would be greatly appreciated.

Unable to switch tabs

hi, everyone, i'm using fedora kde plasma and I'm unable to switch tabs. for some reason, when i click to a different tab with mouse , the whole app seems to freeze. whether the app is firefox, brave, or vs code, i can't click or close on tab icons.

edit: turns out the i can close the tabs, but somehow the actual click is registered few pixels above the cursor, so if i put my cursor directly above the tab, it doesn't click that, but if i touch the lower boundary of the tab, i can close it or click it.
this translation of cursor position vs click is only in the tabs area, nowhere else.

tiny url fonts in chromium based browsers in linux

Apparently, chromium based browsers in linux have really tiny fonts for urls, and they don't follow the system font settings. the only exception to this is edge, how did they do it? I'm currently using brave, and the url font is just impossible to see, any solution?

and please dot't say to increase the overall zoom level of the system.

Scholarship for undergraduate in korea, int'l Students

Hi everyone, I'm from South Asia and i graduated from my highschool on 2025. I spent one year applying to US but failed.

Now I want to apply to KOREA. I have heard that there are few universities like (KAIST, UNIST, POSTECH ) that automatically grant scholarship to admitted international students.

My academic direction is computer science. I have been programming since highschool, have some personal projects and I'm also contributing to an opensource project as a core member. Though, i might apply to a different course for reduced competition.

My stats:

Sat: 1480

Ielts: 8

Cgpa 3.75+

Do you think I'm eligible for the admissions there?

Also, are there other universities with easy acceptence and similar scholarship+ stipends.
