homem hétero com mulher bi

oie lindos,

Does anyone else also keeps avoiding public places or being social?

When I got into college, I became a party animal, every weekend I was partying somewhere else, drinking heavily and making poor decisions.
At that point I knew I had BPD but the diagnosis only came later, and when it did I entered another phase in life.
Since I graduated college in 2024, not only am I struggling to keep a job (currently unemployed) but also i’ve been distancing myself from every social interaction and falling into deep depression
I still want to be that girl that was always present, so every now and then I call my group of friends to hang only to ditch out the last minute, same goes for birthdays or even when my best friend who lives 5 minutes from me needed comfort after a breakup
Idk, it’s a mix of my depression and anxiety I guess?

The more I distance myself, the longer I feel like I need to be alone, and the thing about life is that all my connections also distance themselves (bc they are living their lives) and the fear of abandonment kick, I feel like it’s either mine or their fault, yet I basically don’t do anything to change that, bc when I want to and try, I give up last minute.

I know i’m on the spectrum of “quiet” bpd and also in my core i am an introvert, on the past i have always needed my alone time to recover my energy, but now every social interaction it’s so draining
last month i didn’t leave my house for 17 days straight and the reason im posting this is bc im about to get ready to see some friends, while freaking out about it, but also feeling bad about canceling again.

anyways, long text, tell me if you feel the same
(english is not my first language, sorry if there’s any mistakes)

The Night the Shadow Looked Me In The Eyes

This will be a long story, mainly because details matter and also because I need to give a lot of context so things make sense.

First things first: English is my second language, so feel free to correct me at any moment. With that said, it’s important to mention that I'm from Brazil, born and raised in a big city. I’m a 22-year-old female now, but this story takes place when I was around 11.

CONTEXT 1:

My mom's side of the family is super Catholic. I grew up going to church and doing all those types of things. My dad and his family, however, are all Kardecist Spiritists. Now, I’m not sure if this religion has many followers outside of Brazil, but essentially, it’s the belief in mediumistic phenomena and communication with the dead, built on a philosophical structure codified by Allan Kardec, which is also aligned with Christianity.

Like most kids, I was super curious about spirits and paranormal stuff, so I would always ask my grandma especially to tell me her stories. I knew that my brother and I also had the gift. As a little kid, I kept seeing things all the time, so as I grew older, I started to get even more interested. I would spend all day watching ghost stories and videos of people trying to catch them on camera… It was intense.

P.S. As a little fun fact, my ancestors were among the first to start following this belief in Brazil. Since then, it has stayed with every generation. Everyone in my dad's family is a psychic medium, and they even worked helping people for many years.

CONTEXT 2:

This next part may seem random, but if anyone believes in energy, you’ll understand why I’m telling this.

In 2016, when I turned 11, Brazil went through a huge economic crisis. Because of that, my mom, who was our main provider, lost her job. Eventually, she found another one, but it was in a completely different state. Brazil is a huge country; I live in the Southeast, and this job was in the North. The logistics were complicated, but the opportunity was too good to pass up. So, my mom moved there, while my dad, my brother, and I stayed in our hometown.

That impacted our family a lot. My brother and I (a kid and a teen) were struggling to be away from her, and my dad basically became a solo father. To give you a better sense of how terrible it was, I was diagnosed with depression at 11 years old, let’s remember that.

We only found out years later, but my mom has bipolar disorder. To sort of throw away her frustration about everything, she decided to remodel our entire apartment. Energy-wise, you can imagine what having 20 people going in and out of your home every day feels like.

Now, this apartment was huge, and I loved it, but it was super creepy as well. We lived on the 18th floor. I was used to doors shutting because of the wind and weird noises due to the height, but other things happened there too (stories for another time). I also want to point out that very close by, there were two churches and one convent, which I could see directly from my bedroom window, and they were really creepy.

The Night Of April 18th, 2017.

With all that being said, I can start the official story. It happened on April 18th, 2017. It was my grandma’s birthday (my dad’s mom).

The plan for the day was simple: I would go to school, come back, study, finish a school project that was due by midnight, and then go to my grandma’s to celebrate her birthday.

The first three items went smoothly. However, as soon as I sat down to do the project, I learned that my friend, who was in charge of starting it so I could finish, hadn’t done anything and wasn’t responding to me.

I mentioned earlier that the day was going according to plan until this happened, but let me remind you of the environment: there were a lot of people coming in and out of my house for the remodel. Due to my depression, I hated school and I hated being at home, so I was constantly feeling bothered and sad. Now, on top of all that, I had to do this entire project by myself and finish it fast because my grandma lived about 40 minutes away. What was bad got worse, but I got to work.

I remember that day was super foggy, so nighttime seemed to come earlier. Around 6 PM—the exact time I was supposed to leave for my grandma’s—I was still finishing the project. When I finally did... the whole file got corrupted and deleted itself.

You can be sure I cried.

At the time, I didn’t understand much about technical computer things, so in my head, I needed to redo the whole thing from scratch. Because it was late and the project was due at midnight, my dad told me to focus on it and left for the party alone.

Doing it all over again wasn’t that hard because I already knew the material, but the frustration was the annoying part, compounded by my mood for the day. Also, I don’t know if it was just because I was tired, but my room—even with the lights on, along with the corridor and my bathroom—seemed oddly dark.

Eventually, I managed to finish the project with no more problems, sent it in, and decided it was time for bed.

It was 10 PM. Because my dad hadn’t come back yet and I was a scared little girl, I left my bedroom door wide open, turned on the lights in my bedroom, bathroom, and the corridor, and laid down. As I started to fall asleep, I suddenly felt super awake.

My immediate reaction was to look at the door. My feet were close to it, and due to the layout, I couldn’t see down the corridor, just the entrance to my room. I was feeling incredibly weird and uncomfortable.

Everything changed when a shadow figure started to emerge in my room. It grabbed the door frame—the one close to my feet—and began scouting the room. This shadow was shaped like a human, but it didn’t have any features except for big, white, glowing eyes. It was entirely black, surrounded by a black aura. The shadow did not look at me at first; it really was just inspecting my room.

As for myself, I was terrified. I started to blink to see if it would go away, hoping it was just my imagination, but it didn’t leave. Then, I started to think I was experiencing sleep paralysis. I didn’t know much about it back then, except for a video I once saw where people said they couldn’t move. So, I decided to try and move, and I could. I shifted my feet and hands slightly.

That movement caught the creature’s attention. It turned its "head" right in my direction. I remember it looking at me, locking eyes, and then slowly leaving my room just as it had entered.

I’m explaining this in detail, but the whole thing probably lasted less than a minute.

As soon as that thing left, my room suddenly seemed brighter, but I was still terrified. I stood completely still for a few minutes, already crying, afraid to make a sound in case the creature came back.

Should I leave my bed? My room? Scream? Yes. So, I started to scream for my brother (yes, I forgot to mention he was home the whole time). I didn’t know if he was asleep or not, but I screamed his name as loud as I could multiple times. He immediately ran to my room. I asked to go to his room and told him everything.

My brother and I didn't have a good relationship at the time, but that was a significant moment for me. He took care of me, hugged me, and let me sleep in his bed, which was a super rare event. After I told him everything, he admitted he had been feeling weird for the last few minutes, like something was wrong and heavy. That was my first confirmation that what happened wasn't just in my head.

We called our father, who was already on his way home. He arrived a while later. Because I didn’t want to be anywhere near my room (I’m not crazy) I slept in his bed (yes, I was a daddy's girl who still needed to sleep with her parents when scared). My dad always believed in my stories. He seemed disturbed, but I knew he believed me. Little did I know why...

I woke up the next morning, made my dad get my clothes and school supplies from my room (lol), and sat down with him for breakfast. That's when he asked me to explain everything in detail. And now, my friends, comes the information that confirmed everything.

My dad asked what exact time it happened.

"10 PM," I said.

"Okay."

"Why?"

"So..."

Basically, my dad was at my grandma’s, and everything was normal until right around 10 PM. My grandma, the queen of mediums in my family, suddenly said she was worried about me and told my dad to go home. As soon as she said that, he felt a heavy energy too, so he left.

As he got into his car and started to drive away, he suddenly stopped. The EXACT same creature I described went around his car and looked right at him. Right after the creature left, my brother and I called him. A trip that usually takes 40 minutes, he made in 25.

I didn’t sleep in my room for a few days; I was terrified of being alone. Some nights my dad worked late and only came home after 11 PM, and I would stay awake waiting for him. As time went on, things got better.

It has been 11 years since that night, and it is still the most vivid and validated memory of an encounter I’ve ever had. Gladly, now I’m more in tune with my mediumship. Of course, some scary moments have happened since, but nothing that deep.

And strangely, as I’m writing this story, I feel the exact same thing I always feel when I remember it: the need to cry. This memory feels more like a sad thing than a scary one now. I don’t think that creature meant any harm to me. It was as if it just stumbled into my house, was curiously looking around, got just as shocked as I did that I could see it, and then went to warn my dad. It didn’t seem like a truly malevolent spirit, but it wasn't a light one either.

I made a quick sketch of the moment the creature looked at me, just so the layout of my room and what this thing looked like makes sense to those reading it.

That’s it! Sorry for the long text, but let me know your thoughts. I have many other good stories to tell.
