Food/liquid feels slow or “stuck” in mid-chest

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for personal experiences only. I have already spoken to a doctor and have a follow-up scheduled.

At the end of March, I had a strong reflux flare after coffee. Since then, I’ve had a mix of symptoms that have changed over time. At first, it was frequent burping, upper stomach/chest pressure, awareness of the heart, and a feeling that I needed to take deep breaths. That part has improved, but it was really stressful.

I was given omeprazole and later Gaviscon, which helped the burning at first. More recently, I’ve still had burping after eating/drinking, throat burning, a mucus/stuck feeling in my throat, and pressure or slow movement around my mid-chest.

I also dealt with constipation and was given Moxalole. I’m now pooping daily, but I still get gas/pressure, gurgling, and liquid “sloshing” sounds, especially after eating or drinking more.

The main thing I’m curious about is whether anyone with GERD/LPR has had food or liquid feel like it moves slowly through the mid-chest, even though it does go down. Dry foods like sandwiches/cereal feel worse, and water is the only thing that helps (yk that feeling when you slightly choke and drink water, it is exactly like that but with everything).

Has anyone experienced this and what helped you calm it down over time?

Thanks.

Food/liquid feels slow or “stuck” in mid-chest— has anyone had this?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for shared experiences. I’ve already seen a doctor and have a follow-up phone call on Wednesday.

At the end of March, I had a bad reflux episode after coffee. At first, I had frequent burping, chest/upper stomach pressure, palpitations/heart awareness, and “air hunger” where I felt like I had to think about breathing or take deep breaths. At its worst, the pressure and burping made me feel almost short of breath. That part has improved, but it’s still been really stressful.

I was given omeprazole and later Gaviscon, which helped the burning at first. Recently, I’ve still had burping after eating/drinking, throat burning/mucus feeling, constant mid-chest pressure, and a slow-swallowing feeling in my mid-chest.

I also had constipation. My doctor suspected constipation/gas pressure could be contributing and gave me Moxalole. I stopped it a few days ago and now poop daily, but I still have gas/pressure, stomach gurgling, and liquid “sloshing” sounds. I know that can be normal when water/food/gas are moving after constipation/laxatives, but it’s still uncomfortable.

The symptom worrying me most is swallowing. Food and liquids do go down, but sometimes they feel like they move slowly or get “stuck” around my mid-chest before reaching my stomach. Dry foods like sandwiches/cereal are worse, and water helps push it down. I also burp after eating/drinking.

I recently had a cold with a congested nose and sore/puffy throat, so I’m wondering if post-nasal drip + reflux irritation could be making the throat/chest sensations worse.

Has anyone with GERD/LPR had this combo: slow mid-chest swallowing, burping after food/drinks, throat burning or mucus feeling, chest pressure/air hunger, palpitations during flares, gurgling/sloshing after constipation, or water feeling like it “pushes food down”?

Did it improve with time, Gaviscon/PPIs, diet changes, treating constipation, calming breathing/anxiety, or post-nasal drip care?

Thank you so much guys.
