A belated ticket for my childhood favorite – Need for Speed: Most Wanted

A belated ticket for my childhood favorite – Need for Speed: Most Wanted

I grew up playing NFS: Most Wanted. Back then, I had no way to pay for it. By the time I could afford games, Black Box had already been shut down. There was no one left to send my money to.

So I bought a used PS2 physical disc instead. Not as a game, but as something I can hold. A small spiritual compensation for the kid who played it for hundreds of hours without paying a cent.

Luckily, I found a legit copy from an experienced seller, at a fair price. We even talked a little about why I was buying it. That conversation meant as much as the disc.

I've also picked up several NFS titles on Steam CN during sales – most of them cost me around $2 each. I'm grateful for that.

My feelings toward this franchise are complicated. I really hope it finds its way back someday. Not just to survive, but to make something that changes the world again, the way it once did.

New to PS2 collecting, any PAL region advice?

I grew up in China and totally missed the PS2 era. Now I want to collect some European (PAL) PS2 games – just the ones I actually like, nothing too serious.

Recently bought a PAL copy of Need for Speed: Most Wanted for nostalgia, and honestly, that feeling is amazing.

Any tips for a newbie collecting PAL games? Things like region locks, disc rot, fakes, or good places to buy.

Thanks in advance!

SEGA's ambition vs. execution – what's your honest take?

Hi everyone,

I’m a SEGA fan from China, and I just started using Reddit to talk with gamers worldwide.

In China, many of SEGA’s classic IPs don’t have much presence anymore. Meanwhile, series like Persona or Like a Dragon (where SEGA is just the publisher) are hugely popular – they even created memes that spread beyond gaming circles.

To me, SEGA’s games often start with a really strong vision. But when I play them, something always feels… not quite complete. Not necessarily bad – just missing something essential.

Is this just me? How do you see SEGA’s strengths and weaknesses as a developer today?

Thanks for reading – I really want to hear honest opinions from long-time SEGA fans.

Looking to pay tribute to my childhood favorite – Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2005)

I'm a player from China. I loved Need for Speed: Most Wanted as a kid, but back then there was no legitimate way to buy the game. Years later, I found out that the original studio had already been disbanded.

I still want to pay tribute to my childhood memories. I've since purchased NFS 12 through 22 as a way to show my support. Even though I don't have much time to play anymore, I'm still grateful for the joy this series has brought me.

I asked an AI assistant about the possibility of supporting the original developers financially, and the answer was that it's almost impossible. The suggestion was to either buy newer games from spiritual successors or get a secondhand physical copy of the original as a symbolic gesture.

The problem is, I don't own a gaming console—I can only play on PC. Still, I'd love to buy a legitimate physical disc of Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2005), just as a keepsake and a symbol of appreciation.

Could anyone recommend which versions (e.g., regional releases, editions) I should look for, and ideally something I can find on secondhand platforms in China?

Thank you to everyone who still loves this game. I truly hope this IP gets rebooted one day.

[Discussion] GameSir Taco – A cheap vertical phone controller from China. Honest review after 1 week.

I bought this with my own money. Here are my thoughts. Anyone else tried it?

Saw this little thing on sale for $7 off ($35 normally) and impulse bought it. I already have a telescopic controller, but the vertical design for DS/vertical arcade games got me curious.

The good:

· Actually makes NDS games on a phone (DraStic emulator) pretty nice. You can use the touchscreen, which cheap dedicated handhelds can't do.

· Decent buttons (conductive rubber for D-pad/face, clicky shoulders). They pushed a firmware update that fixed early input issues.

· 30hr battery, USB-C cutout on the case, only 62g.

The bad:

· Ergonomics suck. It's top-heavy with a phone attached. Shoulder buttons = accidental presses. Over an hour? Your hands will hate you.

· Blocks part of your screen. You'll be tweaking aspect ratios manually in every emulator.

· The companion app is janky. You'll still spend time fiddling with RetroArch settings.

· Build quality feels cheap. Like, "will this snap in my pocket?" cheap.

· They say to use a charger <30W or you might damage it. Seriously?

Verdict:

It's a creative experiment, not a daily driver. At $35, it's hard to recommend unless you *really* want a vertical DS machine and hate the idea of a $100 dedicated handheld. Foreign buyers seem to like the "cool Chinese gadget" vibe. I'm keeping mine as a fidget toy, but I wouldn't buy it again.

Ask me anything if you're still considering it.

Price and Region Information: In China, the normal retail price of this controller is approximately 149 RMB, and with a discount, it's around **20 USD**, not 35 USD. During promotional periods, it's even cheaper by 49 RMB, which is approximately 14.7 USD. The 35 USD price is aimed at international buyers. The 20 USD price is more reasonable. 35 USD? That feels a bit "average."
