How do you turn an audio channel into a signal that will affect a light.

if there was a clap coming through an audio channel could this be easily changed to make an (a?) led flash? It would only be that noise coming through, so short and sharp with silence in between.

the audio input put would be a large jack lead (like a guitar lead). or potentially an xlr (mic lead) but I think there sends are similar.
