What's your favorite episode of each season?

Mine are....

Season 1 - Episode 1 "Sassenach"
Because it's the one that started it all.

Season 2 - Episode 13 "Dragonfly in Amber" Because time travel is real, and Jamie's didn't die at Culloden.

Season 3 - Episode 6 "A. Malcolm" Because Claire is back and Jamie faints.

Season 4 - Episode 1 "America the Beautiful" Because the robbery on the boat was while sad, it was a beautifully filmed scene. Welcome to America Frasers.

Season 5 - Episode 11 "Journeycake" Because Jamie eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with a fork is hilarious.

Season 6 - Episode 8 "I Am Not Alone" Because Claire is a bad ass with a gun.

Season 7 - Episode 11 "A Hundredweight of Stones" Because Jamie makes Claire very happy by not being dead and then makes go William berserk by telling him truth finally.

Season 8 - Episode 10 "And the World Was All Around Us" Because Jamie's not dead again and Claire's hair is all white, and now she is an all-powerful granny.

Edited to fix the line breaks

Opening credit sequence

One thing that I absolutely love about Outlander is the opening credits. This is one of the shows that I never skipped the intro, even on rewatchs. I love it when shows have a good theme song, (The Skye Boat Song is a great one!), and change the opening sequence, either each episode, various times throughout the season, or just each season. For me, it shows that the showrunners pay attention to details. Even if it's just the episode title, director, writers part.

I, for one, confess to trying to watch the scenes and check it off after I see it in the show. Like....yep happened, no, no, yes, just happened. And looked forward to when you know they're going to change about mid way through the season or changed location. Anyone else do this nonsense, or is it just me?

The only scene I never figured out was season 1, the image of someone smoking a pipe.I believe it's one of those scenes that were filmed but not used. Like the one also from season one with Claire and Frank sitting on the dock. That was footage that just didn't make the show.

I loved the season 8 opening sequence and how they changed the final scene in the opening to match the episode number with the season. Like episode 1 used the final scene in the opening from season 1. And they changed it every episode.

I know I'm obsessed.

What's your favorite and/or least storyline arc or scene from show?

My favorite storyline from the show is how Jamie and Claire met and fell in love. That was nuts and heartwarming all in one.🙂

My least favorite storyline was Faith/Francis storyline. It just went absolutely nowhere. The premise had potential. I was intrigued. They built it up only to let it fizzle away. It turned into a big nothing-burger.

What's yours?

Four part question. Which storyline(s) from the books did you like how the show did...

Ok, for clarity, maybe it's better to ask as four separate questions. Feel free to answer any or all of them.

Which storyline(s) from the novels did you like how it was done in the show?

Which storyline(s) from the novels did you not like how it was done on the show?

Were there any storylines from the show that you liked better than how it was written in the novels?

Were there any storylines from the show that you didn't like better than how it was written in the novels?

Before I share my take, I just wanted to say that for me, I liked how many scenes from the novels that were not used in the show were still intermingled with the storylines in the show. Because even though the two versions were not the same, at least to me, it made it feel like they were the same. Even knowing that they were not.

I'm only going to give one answer for each question because I am interested in hearing what you'll have to say on these matters.

For me....

The storyline from the novels that I liked how it was done in the show was from book 1, season 1. The whole wedding scene. Wonderfully written and beautifully executed. 😍

The storyline in the novels that I didn't like how it was done on show was from book 3, season 3. The voodoo crocodile ceremony thing. It made little sense in the show. In the novels, it wasn't confusing, and I really liked that part.🐊

The storyline in the show that I liked better than what was written in the novels. Murtagh not dying at Culloden. For the screen adaptation, keeping him alive helps with the telling of the story flow better. They also didn't have to introduce more characters. And we got to have Murtagh around for much longer. 🙂

And finally, the storyline from the show that I didn't like better than the one that was written in the novels. It has to be the Faith/Francis storyline. It's not so much that the show changed it, but rather that they did nothing with it. I was willing to go along with the change even with the creepy Targaryen thing. But the way this storyline ended was a big disappointment. 😔

Thanks for reading, and I look forward to hearing any responses. 🙂

Spoilers Question about book 9

That supposed lawyer that Roger and Fergus meet with Percy

I am rereading BEES, and I just came across a scene I remembered, not all the details, but I did remember the important parts. However, boy, o boy, did I miss what was actually going on with one of the people during this scene. I'm going to blame it on the hindsight thing.

It's the scene in Charles Town when Fergus is going to meet with Precy. Fergus asked Roger to go with him. They meet Precy and he tells him about his parents. Then another person joins the conversation and gives Fergus the marriage contract. Fergus disregards it but does inquire about their interest in the matter. The land speculation thing. But the money would depend on the Americas winning the war. Fergus asks what if the British win. The lawyer says they won't.

Fergus and Roger leave, and Fergus is kinda spooked by the whole thing. Mostly the lawyer. Roger makes an off handed remark about not being able to remember what he looked like.

Is this lawyer, Richardson?

I know Roger met him as that archeologist Callahan in 1980. I have read this book, so I know William will send Bree a rough sketch of Richardson warning her to stay away from him. Bree recognized him as that archeologist Callahan and as one of the men in the shoot out at the O.K. Corral.

She does show this to Roger, and they talk about disguises. But I don't recall if he remembers that lawyer.

So back that same question, could that lawyer with Precy be Richardson, or if not, then someone who is working with him and knows what Richardson is or is maybe another time traveler?

I totally missed this on previous reads. I'm also wondering if anyone else has any thoughts on this.

Jamie and a French girl

This has bothered me since the first time I read it, and every time after. It's a small mention but one that has, at least me, racking my brain and searching for this unnamed mystery French girl. After a bit, I give up and continue reading and soon forget about it. But for some unknown reason, the thought of this mystery person popped into my head. So, instead of trying to figure it out, I thought I would see if anyone here might have some insight concerning this matter.

In book 7, ECHO, Jamie is standing on the deck Philomene on his way back to America, thinking about death. As his thoughts mander about, he mentions "the nameless girl." He goes on to say that, "She died in France, on the far side of the void in his head that had been made by the blow of an ax." He goes on to ponder that his marriage to Claire might have been some type of atonement. As "He'd learned to forgive himself for what not been his fault and in loving Claire gave the girl's shade some peace, he hoped."

Ok, I know about when he took the ax in the head. He can't process music as a result. (Maybe Claire can use her newfound powers and fix that.) Speaking of the ax, is it ever revealed who did it or had it done? I know at one point Dougal's name is mentioned.

But back to my original question, who is this nameless French girl to Jamie?

Is it one of those things that DG just threw out there, and there is no previous mention? Or she did, and I missed it?

Lionel Menzies and the 1980 Crew

I am currently on the 3rd re-reading, and I'm on book 8 about 3/4 of the way through. Some of the books I have read more than 3 times. But like I said, this is the 3rd time all the way through.

Okay, I am sure that I'm not the only person to wonder about Lionel Menzies, as well as what is going on in 1980, or rather 1981. It was December 21, 1980, when Bree and the kids leave, and we, as the readers, have no idea what has happened in the 1980 time since then.

Lionel's two sudden appearances (the shoot at the O.K. Carrol and at the stones before Bree goes through), has since my first read left me wondering many things. I know most of these I hope will be dealt with in book 10. But it is always fun to try to guess and speculate. 🙂

  1. He knows about time travel. The question would be how and why does he know?

  2. Is he a villain, good guy, or something in between?

  3. Could he be a descendent of one of the characters from the 1780s? Like Wee Davy, any of Fergus's or Ian's kids or even Trevor's.

  4. What does he know about Carmen/Richardson conspiracy plot?

  5. Does he get away after Bree goes thru the stones? If so is he being watched by the remaining non time travelers?

I suppose you can fairly say I am anxiously waiting for book 10 to see if who, what, and why, Lionel Menzies is there. What are some of your thoughts and theories about him. As well as the other people that are with Rob.

I do hope book 10 explains how Rob came to work with Richardson. And what might happen to those in the 1980 time line.

Spoilers maybe question about the desk in book 8

Ok, I am rereading (3rd time) book 8, Written In My Own Heart's Blood. The desk Bree finds Frank's completed letter, confused me the other times I read the book. And I am at that part again. So I thought I'd ask the experts.

Bree finds this letter in or behind the big drawer when she is opening the hidden compartment to put the letter she wrote to Roger. I thought this desk was Brian Fraser's. I know later Roger also leaves a note for Bree in this hidden compartment.

If this is Brian Fraser's desk in Lallybroch, how would Frank be able to put his letter there or even know Bree will ever have access to it?

Am I missing something, or is it just one of those things that is because that's how DG did it? 🤔

Question about the rings

Silly question about Claire's silver rings that's been bothering me for years.

In the show, season 4, what did they do with Claire's now extra silver ring?

Extra meaning the one Bonnet stole. Jamie replaced it, but then Bree gets it, gives it to her mom, and then her mom shows it to everyone when all is revealed. So Claire should have two silver rings.

Did they sell it? Did Caitriona Balfe snag it? Did the producers forget about it?

It's like it just disappeared. Poof gone like never even happened.
