Anyone here train force free? What was your goal with your dog and how long did it take you to get there. I'm trying to solve my border terriers reactivity towards other dogs. 10 months, small improvement. he has like 50/50 success rate. Which makes him a pretty wild cannon.
I've been reading on the internet and most people say to keep a leash on them. Mine is super reactive, has anyone had success training theirs to be reliable off leash? If so, how did you do it?
My dog reacts from more then 30 yards away from other dogs. I want to be able to walk him off leash one day, but so far it doesn't seem like he'll make it that far. Even if I'm 30 yards away, he'll still fixate and it's really hard to call him off. So far I'm giving him treats when he can look at the dog but not react, and if I say let's go, I wait for him to turn and then I treat him. Except, when I walk in the neighborhood, I'm just too close to everyone else. Do the emergency u turns even help him understand that he cant lunge and go crazy, or should I just let him watch the other dogs and continue treating when he's quiet?
