Carbon ring and phantom defense ammo getting dirtier?
TLDR, basically the title, phantom defense subs seem to be getting dirtier and now I have a carbon ring starting to form?
Took my rifle out this morning and shot a mix of 200gr and 220gr phantom defense subs. Had this gun set up with an H2 and carbine spring and hadn't had any issues with this setup until today.
Today started with the 200gr as I had 2 bags left and just recieved 800 220gr subs as those seemed to run better for me in the past. First mag no hold open. Tried 220s and seemed fine, okay maybe it's the 200gr. Shot some more 200gr and held open some and others didn't. From there started having a bunch of failure to feeds and had to mortar it to get a stuck round out.
Swapped back to 220s and cycled fine but had some issues holding open on a few mags. Groups seemed to be opening up and called it a day. I'm no precision shooter, but was worried of a potential baffle strike. Cap and baffles looked good I just suck lol.
Got home and started to clean it. It's the dirtiest this gun has gotten and only in about 100 rounds this morning. Explains the jams and issues I was experiencing. Looked down the barrel and saw a ring building up at the chamber just before the rifling. From what I have read this can lead to poor cycling, accuracy, and more. Bore snake didn't seem to make a dent in this so time to get a cleaning rod and go at it.
Just wanted to see if others have noticed this with the phantom subs recently? While frustrating at least I know my rifle needs some adjustment to ensure reliable cycling (trying an H1 buffer next time).
Also what diameter cleaning rod are you all using? I am only seeing 6mm options. I have a 5mm for my 556 and 22s but want to get the proper size for this.
