How do you stay consistent with a sleep routine when you have ADHD?

Hey everyone. I know ADHD affects everyone differently (I have combined type), but I was wondering if anyone else struggles the most with keeping a consistent sleep schedule.

Earlier this summer I managed to stick to a morning routine for about 1–2 weeks, and honestly I felt great. I had tons of energy and motivation to do difficult tasks in the morning and days felt so much longer, additionally it felt like my circadian rhythm was actually working where I naturally felt tired before going to bed. But eventually I fell out of the routine, and now I can't seem to get back into it. It was somewhere between 11pm-12am, 7-9am (whenever my body woke up)

Nowadays I've been sleeping at my usual 2am again and oversleeping, the problem is nowadays when I do go to bed earlier, my sleep quality feels like garbage and I either wake up feeling tired, wake up through the night and constantly dreaming. (stuff I don't recall having earlier), to the point where I rather stay in bed and just rest even if I technically slept enough.

I'm trying to figure out whether this is something other people with ADHD experience or if it sounds more like depression. I know ADHD can make routines and sleep consistency really difficult, but I'm not sure if the "I just can't get myself out of bed" feeling is part of ADHD, burnout, depression, or something else.

For me, sleep has always been my biggest self-discipline challenge. I don't really struggle much with things like overeating or doomscrolling. I even know that staying up late isn't worth it, but one way or another I always find an excuse / creative mood before bed where I can keep breaking this routine.

Does anyone else feel like sleep is their biggest ADHD battle? And if you've managed to become consistent, what actually helped you stay that way?
