What is the realistic path to getting into investment banking?

I am a recent business and finance graduate from a non-target school in the UK. I am also a CFA level 2 candidate. I want to get into investment banking or other high finance careers like asset management, wealth management, investment analyst/trader at a hedge fund.

Unfortunately I don’t have any experience in finance and I’ve been applying to internships and entry level roles. I don’t mind starting off in corporate finance and FP&A to gain some experience. But in the long term I want to get into those roles I’ve mentioned above.

So as someone who has been in a similar situation to mine or started off in these roles with little to no experience. Please share your insights on what skills I should focus on, how to land entry level roles etc.
Thank you

How’s the job market in Australia currently?

A bit about myself, I’m a recent finance grad and I’m planning to do my masters for a while now and I’m looking to get into finance.

I’ve been looking at options to study abroad and Australia is one of them. However I want to decide based on the employment opportunities. And is it really worth it? Spending all that money as an international student.

Is the FPAP certification by CFI worth it?

I’m a recent graduate and I’ve been applying to entry level jobs/internships to start my career off in finance. I’ve been doing the certification for a while now and it seems like companies don’t care if you have the certification or not. So the ones who have done it, did it help you land a role in FP&A?

Masters degree in a math heavy subject with no experience in math.

So I graduated with a Business and Finance degree from a UK university. And I’m planning to do my masters in the UK itself. But for my masters I want to get into a field that’s very math heavy like computational finance or Econ or financial mathematics. These courses generally require a background in math especially with calculus or stats.

My undergraduate degree did not include modules in calculus and statistics, which I understand are typically required for these programs. I would like to know whether my academic background could still be considered, or if there are any prerequisite or bridging courses, or certifications I could complete to become eligible?

CFA L2 in May 2027

So I’m planning to write my L2 in May (2027). I wrote my L1 back in Nov 2026. And I was planning to start my prep for L2. But I don’t remember anything from L1.
Is that normal? Or should I revise all the concepts of L1 before I start my L2 prep?
