1 Year Update on my Brutal Shedding

Since I got so many messages after my first post asking how the shedding went, I finally decided to do another post.

I’ll explain it from the beginning for y’all.
On February 1st, 2025, I decided to hop on 1 mg finasteride daily while already being on topical minoxidil for a long time (first pic). I immediately started shedding, and around 1.5 months in my hair looked terribly thin (second pic).

But that’s how I knew the medication was working. So over the next few weeks I decided to shave it all off so it could regrow evenly. That’s when I noticed that after 3 months the density had gone up massively and my hair looked a lot better (third pic).

Six months into treatment, my head was almost completely full again (pics 4–8). I also have a video of me running my fingers through my hair multiple times, which really shows the progress clearly, but I’ll post it in the comments for y’all.

Now, 8 months into treatment, I started noticing hair falling out again and felt a shedding phase coming on. My hair continued to shed over the months, with density fluctuating back and forth. Now I’m on the lower end again (last two pics).

I’ve decided to switch to dutasteride since it’s more potent and blocks approximately 90% of DHT compared to about 70% for finasteride. Knowing that finasteride already worked wonders by lowering my DHT, I have high hopes for dutasteride, but I’m expecting another huge shed.

I also started taking oral minoxidil 3 months ago and will continue to do so alongside topical minoxidil until my supply runs out.

And for anyone asking: no, I’ve never experienced any side effects or low libido.

So my current stack is:
• 0.5 mg dutasteride daily
• 2.5 mg oral minoxidil daily
• Topical minoxidil twice daily
• Derma stamping every other day
• Some vitamins, as well as biotin, zinc, and iron

Just cowlick or the beginning of thinning/ bald spot on the top/back of my head?

Hey all, so I’ve had a large cowlick on the top since I was a kid. In the attached short video you will see the cowlick causing a little circular patch of skin to show through at the top left hand side.

I never pay much attention to the back of my head but just recently I noticed that my scalp is visible on the middle/ right side of the back of my head which you will see here below the cowlick I mentioned. Is this just an extension of my cowlick causing scalp to show through more than I’ve noticed before? Or is this for certain the beginning of thinning happening? When I grow my hair out my cowlick is very large on the back of my head but I’ve never noticed this much scalp showing until recently. It’s not hardly as noticeable in normal lighting compared to the light directly on my head in this video.

Any and all input would be GREATLY appreciated as I’ve been stressing pretty hard about this. Thank you!

27M. Fine hair. Give me the truth.

  1. Dry hair, parted
  2. Directly after shower
  3. Outside/daylight, dry
  4. Under bathroom light, dry

I’ve been using 1mg/Finasteride on and off for under three years. Blood tests done, identified deficiency of Vitamin D.

31. Curly Hair/Product vs Balding?

I can’t tell whether this is thinning or just curly hair/clumping from product. Photos are two months apart.
Hairline is fine it seems though.

I’m 31. I feel like the past week I’ve been obsessing over what to do.

Only thing I’ve really noticed is the temples getting lighter and the hairline just barely scooting back. The crown has always kinda been like that since college. Thinking about doing minoxidil just on the temples and base of the hairline plus microneedling and seeing if it does anything. I noticed some thinning in February and it feels like it is getting slightly worse but also my hair is just more blonde now with it being summertime.

Hey Guys

Age: 27

Family history: Barely any hair loss, I have four brothers & I’m the only one with this curse. My father is an NW1 in his late 60s. Mother’s brothers barely have thinning in their 50s/60s

Treatment Protocol: I’ve been on 0.5mg finasteride eod, some weeks every day for the past two years.

I recently cut my hair after a few years and my density is gone. I can hide the thinning with longer hair but I want to fix this mess. Any opinions on my next step? Do you think minoxidil can fix this or should I start planning for a transplant?

These pictures are before and after the haircut I had a week ago.

Question about taking min and fin

Hi guys, so I’ve ordered minox and finasteride, but I’ve read on here that a lot of people notice something called a “dead shred” when taking minox, causing their hair to look worse than it initially did and sometimes not even improving.

So my hair actually isn’t too bad, but feel like I’m receding on the corners. I have no idea if this is my mature hairline or actually going back and thinning.

I’m thinking of just taking the finasteride and leaving the minox due to the shedding.

My question is, if I just take the finasteride, can I still grow the corners back? I know it stops it but I also want the corners to thicken back up and be like they was 2 years ago when I was 20.

Is it time to start minoxidil? Started to see hair thinning

I am 20 years old, I noticed thinning as seen on the picture. I did my bloodwork and hormones and minerals, everything is good.

I have been taking finasteride for 5 months...

I have been taking finasteride for 5 months, but it is during the last 3 months that it is the I started taking it daily and seriously. Before, I was hesitant, taking it one week and not the next. Is there a noticeable change, or is it just long hair effects from not having haircut 😅

simple trick to hide balding crown

Hey guys! I’ve found this really neat, subtle trick to hide any balding in the back/crown. Let me know what you guys think!

Chat am I cooked ? [M18]

Noticed some exposed scalp in this area in a close up video (like the canera was going right next tot op of my head under a bright light) . Not sure this is normal especially because the horizontal parting on top of my head (pic 6) seems thinner (though I cannot say if this has to do with the angles from which I am taking the pictures.
