Rear brakes feel unsafe on new 2026 101 scout

Hello. I purchased a 26 101 scout about 2 weeks ago. I noticed on a handful of occasions when the rear brake 'lets go' for 1 or 2 seconds when I'm slowing down and only using rear brake. It's like the rear brake is working then all the sudden hey where did my brakes go? and then they pick up again. No pulsating or abs/tc control. It's dry straight road, no gravel. I mentioned it to dealer I purchased it from during 500 mile service this week at Owen Motorsports in Charleston, IL and they updated ECM and/or ride command during the service. Next 500 miles no issues until a recent ride this week it happened again coming up to a red light going 25mph or less. I'm braking/slowing then rear brake isn't helping for 1-2 seconds then it works again. Called original dealer to check out but if they would need to keep it I would need to coordinate a 100 mile ride home with no bike. So I took my bike to a closer dealer - Greenmount Motorsports OFallon, IL. They test rode it, got the bike to do exactly what I experienced, and said this is normal operation for my bike for rear brakes to let up like this for a second or two before re engaging at slow speeds. Seriously?? Am I losing my mind? This doesn't feel right. Dealer said there is no reason for them to check for air bubbles in the line and hooking it up to the computer won't show anything since my abs light doesn't come on. This is my first Indian. My rebel 500 abs never did anything like this during the 15,000 miles I rode it this year The rear brake never just stopped working for 1-2 seconds at any speed. Have you experienced this on your 2026 101 scout? Any Indian mechanics here?

Tldr: dealer says it's normal for rear brakes to stop working for a second or two at low speed

Disc lock with alarm

I'm prepping for a xc ride and figured it would be a good idea to add some type of theft deterrent to my 25 rebel 500 since I'll be stopping overnight so many unfamiliar places. I've looked at so many disc locks with alarms that I'm tired of looking. Seems like the good ones are larger than the 6mm recommended max size. And the smaller ones are a mixed bag. I think a yellow one makes more sense vs black as a deterrent so hopefully a lazy thief would just avoid. The oxford boss alarm is one large one that may work but go around the whole disc instead of through one of the holes. Otherwise I'm looking at the abus 7000 rs1 ($175 usd) vs an Amazon special Kraser Wa6y ($40 usd). I don't mind paying more for a lock but if it's basically the same protection/deterrent then it's silly to pay more. What do you guys use?

Decision: I went with this one for $20 on Amazon with lock, alarm and cable https://a.co/d/0gHaIb1e

Luggage weight for touring

I'm excited to go for my first trip involving overnights. I've been researching tailbags (28L Viking and 30L Kriega). However, when I look at luggage racks they are rated for no more than 10 lbs! Depending on the luggage, my gear plus the bag is going to be 14-22 lbs with clothes, rain gear, tools, etc. Have you found a rack to fit your Rebel that will support more weight? Are the limits super conservative and will actually hold more? Or did you ditch the tailbag idea and throw saddlebags on?

Kerosene for cleaning chain

I used kerosene to clean my chain before spraying with lubricant. And a little voice in my head reminded me not to throw the kerosene rag into the washing machine! So I'll soak in warm water with dawn before rinsing before putting into washing machine (or just consider it clean). But what do you guys do with the 'kerosene water' after soaking the rag? And if you don't machine wash the rag after soaking and rinsing, is the rag fine to just leave in the garage? Fire hazard? I feel like saving a few bucks to use keresone to clean my chain is a poor trade off for the clean up hassle afterwards. What am I missing?

Highway foot pegs

I'm upgrading my 2025 Rebel 500 ABS so longer trips are more comfortable. Longest ride so far is 370 in a day and legs definitely needed to stretch, even with gas and other stops. Almost all the highway pegs I've found require engine guards. But I prefer the naked look. Any recommendations on highway pegs without guards or pictures of your rebel with the guards and highway pegs?
