Failed babies due to extreme heat?
Generally, our year 3 patch is doing very well but we’ve come across a few of these. Is it because of the sustained high temps 85-95F or is there something else in our control to prevent this? Thanks! Other pics show not all is lost

Thankfully, barely missed this wee one with my shovel. He/she was tucked in the mud underneath the garden wall (that’s the netting in the pic). Assuming he/she is eastern box turtle, maybe offspring of the tripod queen seen in my previous posts to this sub? Idk about that pointy tail. Sorry no banana for scale. USA zone 7b
