What's your workflow for ultrawide?

I am really interested in Niri, but seems something is not clicking for me.

I have 40 inch 5k monitor and broadly speaking i prefer to have different sizes of window based on number of windows. E.g:

- I open first window it should be 60 - 70 percent wide in center

- When I open second I want both of them have 40 percent width , meeting in middle with 10% percent on side

- When I open 3rd I want 3x33% width columns

Secondly I prefer have workspaces assigned to specific topic e.g 1. Workpsace work, 2. Browser, 3. Communitication email / slack 4. Personal eg music / notes.

Is my personal workflow not correct for niri if so how would you replace it?

Is dynamic ultrawide layout now possible?

I wanted to switch to hyprland in the past, but my main issue was I couldn't re-create a flow I have on my ultrawide monitor. TLDR is basically layout which changes based on number of windows on the workspace. The main goal is to use as much space without going too wide on my 40inch 5k monitor. So:

  1. I open first window -> it should set with to 60% in center 20% gaps on each side

  2. I open second window -> first window should resize to 40%, second window 40% both meeting in middle side by side 10% gaps on each side.

  3. I open third window -> all 3 now takes 33% in 3 column layout

After that i dont care much.

My understanding is that thanks to User-defined layouts and lua this will be doable relatlively easy?

How easy is repair in practice?

I 've ordered FW 13 pro, and I want to set my expectations. One of the reasons I am replacing my Mac is because, there is no Apple care or official Apple shop in my city. There is only one authorized repair shop.

If FW breaks, what should I expect? I assume that bottleneck will be order the parts. I am in EU but if something like display breaks I will have to order Framework display and I have to hope that it will be available.

Once I got the part I assume its much easier and faster to fix it my self or take to any serious pc service, and they should easily figure out what to do, plus the repair and the part will be cheaper.

Logitech please update MX Vertical

I really wanna switch from mx master 3s to vertical mouse, but MX Vertical is so out of date:

  • wheel sucks, it needs MagSpeed
  • click sounds are annoying
  • buttons are painful to use litteraly:
    • I have large hands but forward button is too far away. Forward and back button should be move closer as you did on mx master 3
    • I had to twist thumb to reach cursor speed switch button on top
    • Wheel button is too tough to press
  • horizontal wheel would be God send
  • Lift exists but it's too small.

13 pro and throttling

Hi,

I am planning to switch after years from Macos to Linux and FW13. I am planning to get 358h or 388h and I am not sure how paranoid if any I should be about CPU throttling. AFAIK it depends a lot of specific laptops , cooling and manufacturers. I will use FW 99% on work, programming so I assume, cpu throttling shouldn't be ever a problem with the new pro?
