migrate from another box question...

I have a firewalla Gold (original) and will be upgrading it to a Gold Plus. I found some pretty strait forward instructions, but my question is about what does/or does not transfer in the migration?

On my existing Gold, I have a point-to-point VPN setup with another location running a Purple. The gold is the VPN server and it also serves several VPN clients (laptops and phones).

When I migrate to the gold plus, will it carry over the VPN related config (DDNS? etc) or will I have to recreate the VPN config from scratch? Likewise, the devices (laptops and phones) which use a wireguard client to connect to the existing Gold VPN server, will they all need to be reconfigured?

Thanks in advance.

3 LP version of Physical Graffiti

After a few years of thinking my original Physical Graffiti album would be found, I gave up and ordered a fresh copy from Barnes and Noble.

I didn’t pay attention when ordering and received the 40th anniversary edition from 2015 which has a 3rd record with 7 outtakes or non-final versions of songs like Kashmir and In My Time of Dying etc.

Must have missed the memo in 2015 and I am just starting to absorb the outtakes.

I will say that listening to Physical Graffiti from beginning to end is something every zep fan should do once in a while. So rich. I probably have not done that in decades.

Best Zep album? Not going to stir that pot. But it is great.

Filen server flagged as malicious

My router (happens to be a Firewalla Gold) is reporting that 'egest.filen-4.net' is a malicious site. The router has AI interface to help explain alarms like this and it says:

>The destination egest.filen-4.net is linked to APT28, a sophisticated threat actor targeting Ukraine and EU countries. This activity uses a known Microsoft Office exploit, putting your device at risk of remote control and data theft.Key Intel• Destination: egest.filen-4.net•    Tags: •    Threat Description: APT28 is exploiting CVE-2026-21509 to compromise systems in Ukraine and EU countries.• Location: 🇩🇪 Germany

I reported it to Firewalla (I'm not sure what lists they subscribe to but I would imagine this is linked to a list of malicious sites/servers) and am sharing it here in that I thought Filen should know about it.

What changes needed when swapping ISP? (and I use VPN)

Finally, luckily, I am getting fiber at my home on monday. It will replace cable internet.

I have 5 clients hitting my Firewalla Gold at my primary address (4 are just devices -- iphones, PCs -- and one is another Firewalla device, a Purple, which is permanently VPN'ing into my primary address.) The Gold is obviously a VPN server.

So I'm wondering what I might have to change or reconfigure when my home ISP changes?

  • Gold is the VPN server using wireguard
  • Purple at remote location is a VPN client for the point-to-point VPN
  • On the server side, my DDNS would likely stay as it is?
  • the IPV4 server address would change, but do I have to do change it manually in the VPN config or would it adopt the new ISP address after rebooting the Gold and it connects to fiber using DHCP?
  • The 4 other clients configured to VPN to the Gold: Do those 4 client configurations need to be recreated?

Thanks in advance.

Thunderbird Pro Add-on can't be added

I'm using TB beta 153.0b7 on macOS.Everything was fine and I went through the process to add the "Thunderbird Pro" add-on and at first it worked.

But then something happened , screen glitched, whatever and it's gone. I'md thinking "fine, I'll just add it again" but I cannot add it back now. If I try to add it, it acts like I added it just fine but then it's just not there.

Note: I can add the Dropbox filelink provider no problem. (I don't use Dropbox, just testing).

At this point, just wondering if there's a hack to clear the filelink provider list or reset it somehow and start over?

EDIT: on my linux box it's working fine.

understanding Fw13 (batch 4 ,2022) upgrades

I have a FW 13 that is going on 4 years soon.

I've updated/repaired a few things along the way (keyboard, speakers, screen) and love it. I'm running Fedora. Was thinking about a FW 13 Pro but prices for RAM are kinda nuts.... and I have 64GB in my older box (intel 12th gen).

So I just want to understand the upgrade possibilities with my old FW 13. The 'upgrade your BIOS' email I just received said

"Enabled compatibility for the haptic touchpad, touch panel, and 74W battery."

So I then I found this article explaining a lot of the optons:
https://knowledgebase.frame.work/framework-laptop-13-and-framework-laptop-13-pro-part-compatibility-HJ2uwC6Ze

From the looks of it, to upgrade my old 13 to the new battery I would need to do the following:

  1. need a new input cover kit $179 which includes the keyboard, finger print reader and touchpad

  2. Need a bottom cover kit $169

  3. battery $89

  4. speakers $19

============

$456

Am I missing something? Do I need a new top cover or am I fine with the original?

Looks like a new Pro 13 would cost upwards of $2,500 most likely, if not s bunch more. Granted the processor would be better but I'm not feeling the need badly enough to spend the extra $2k.

Thanks in advance.

SMTP issue, TB 153.0b2 (beta) and how I solved it

I experienced sudden sending delays for an Exchange account. Initially thought it was an older bug rearing it's head again but then I found the solution. I'm just sharing this in case it saves someone a headache.

Symptom:

On macOS, all of a sudden, either after a TB beta update or a pw reset on my Exchange account, when I send an outbound MS 365 account email , it would get stuck for sometimes 3 minutes, even longer, with the "sending message..." dialogue just sitting there. Eventually the msg does get sent. The mac is running Thunberbird beta 153.0b2 .

I then noticed that my linux box, running TB 151.0.1, I had no such problem, I hit send and it goes immediately. So as much as I thought it was a microsoft issue, it appearsed not to be (there have been SMTP send issues in the past with Exchange accounts, initially I thought I was having that old issue).

THE FIX:

So I think that at some point in either the beta update or a password reset for Exchange, the "place copy in" checkbox for sent items got unchecked. I'm sure I didn't do it and am guessing that it got unchecked somewhere in maybe the pw reset process.... I can't' be sure now.

So the fix is easy: go to Accounts, pick the correct mail account, then select Copies & Folders and make sure you check (or re-check) the "Place copy in" checkbox in the image above. Now a send doesn't take 4 minutes, it's more like 3 seconds.

need help troubleshooting site that won't open

I think I'm missing something simple, but I can't figure it out . I believe it's Firewalla induced but that may be wrong too.

I am testing an email services codamail.com and it seems that as of this morning (not sure I tried it yesterday) it won't open. Prior to that working fine for months. (codamail has been around 25 years, formerly known as 'cotse' I think).

setup

  • Firewalla Gold 1.68(89)
  • can ping codamail.com from the terminal just fine
  • can fire up a VPN (mullvad) connect to a NY server and then I can connect to Codamail just fine and open site and login.
  • I've tried three or more browsers, nothing works (unless I vpn) . Mostly I get connection "refused"
  • tried creating a firewalla rule to allow that site for all devices, didn't help
  • same issues in browser on phone
  • I don't see anything in firewalla "blocked" history
  • every other site I hit is working

In Brave Origin browser I get

>"This site can’t be reached codamail.com refused to connect ..ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED"

In firefox I get

"Looks like there’s a problem with this site Firefox can’t connect to the server at codamail.com "

with ungoogled chromium I get same response as Brave.

Again, ping works (without VPN) so I don't think it's DNS related. Family Protect is not activated for either my laptop (Fedora linux) or my mobile (iphone).

Looking for other things to test? Maybe a target list situation of some sort?
