An Author's Research

Hey everyone, I'm currently writing a book and I have a character in it that I would like to be a former Park Ranger. Former, in this case, because an apocalyptic event happened to Earth. And I'd love to have y'alls input so I have a better sense of authenticity. I'm specifically looking for Interpretive Park Rangers to give me an idea of what your day to day looks like, what kind of training did you do to prepare yourself for the role? The good, the bad, and the ugly. I would assume the duties and responsibility of Rangers drastically differ from park to park, so I'm hoping to get a variety of input here.

If anyone's interested in the book, it's a LitRPG series so if you know how any of your awesome Park Ranger skills could help in an apocalypse, definitely include that lol

He Who Fights With ... Comfort?

Y'all, I know this series gets a lot of polarizing opinions. Some don't like Jason, some don't like one story Arc or another. But I'll be honest, going back to Book 1 and getting to see his thoughts on his Essences (especially before he absorbs them), when he gets his "Starter Gear" and the first time Jason learns about Heidels... *Shudders*

It's just really damn good writing, worldbuilding and character development. It's now become a "cozy read" as I work myself back through the series. Haha sure, that will change once the Big Threats emerge but c'mon mate, SHABS! You remember the SHABS?

Why did the system happen, does it matter to you?

Some books will start out page 1, "... And then the world ended." And that's kind of it really as for the Big Why. I'm not totally caught up on either but for example Primal Hunter and He Who Fights With Monsters. Which, for me, doesn't detract from the story at all.

Then you have stories like Dungeon Crawler Carl, and (my more recent listen in audible) my recommendation for reading this, Homicidal Aliens Are Invading And All I Got Was a Stats Menu, by JJ Ackerknecht. With these, you have the Big Why being extremely important to the plot (former) or at least discussed as a subplot (the latter, I'm not totally finished with book 2.)

So my question is, does it matter to you? Is it a 'need' or a 'want'?

System Apocalypse/Isekai TTRPG's

You know the kind of story I mean,

<Your universe has been selected for assimilation into The System. Please stand by.>

Or,

You and your friends are walking across the street to Waffle House after just finishing up your 10 year Houses and Humans campaign, only for you all to be hit by the one and only Truck-Kun. You all awaken, raising your heads from the table, in a tavern, in a world of magic and monsters.

Whatever the intro story line may be, what TTRPG would you recommend for something like this?

More Urban Fantasy LITRPG Recs

Sorry if there's already a name for what I'm looking for, but I went with Urban Fantasy LITRPG.

So Urban Fantasy is one of my favorite fantasy subgenres, and I love when it gets mashed up in LitRPG. So I'm looking for some more recommendations on some "Our World, Our People, Plus Magic". I've read enough Isekai to another universe but I really enjoy the Humanity of it all when it's everyone. I also don't mind if the entire world has changed but I really like the stories where it's still Earth with preexisting locations.

Books I've Read and Enjoyed that Are Similar:

Dungeon Crawler Carl

Primal Hunter

Apocalypse Parenting

Andy in the Apocalypse

He Who Fights With Monsters During Those Books (lol)

Hexes, Curses, and Afflictions. Oh my!

So we all know "Mr. Asano" from HEFWM is probably the most well known Affliction Specialist in town. Side character Miranda from Primal Hunter is a witch, but we don't get to see much going on there.

Any other MCs out there specialized in the "Damage Over Time" kind of fighting?

Preferably in a story you'd actually recommend as well lol

An Ant Among Ants

So I started Chrysalis a while back on Audible, and it's been a pretty enjoyable read so far but I wasn't getting "hooked" into the story the way I wanted. However, I've been enjoying it enough so I've just been kind of chugging along.

But then I get to the "Chatterbox" chapter and now I'm locked in. Amazing what a bit of communication can do for feeling connection to a character in a new way.

I don't know which one of y'all posted here recommending it, I've seen a lot of recommendations for it, be to whoever I saw post about it the day I bought it?

Thank you!

FOR THE COLONY!

Make the numbers and horror, go up.

I want a solid horror LitRPG!

I watch a few different horror movies every week so I'd love to give some money and time to a good book.. But I haven't found any solid recommendations for us over here in Stat-Land...Statlandia...Stat-Closet?

Us over here in LitRPG.

Kaiju Battlefield Surgeon gets recommended as horror, and while I'm sure I'll go back to it at some point, it's shelved for now so maybe I've missed the turn in the story. Though horror, and art in general, is subjective so maybe it's just not "horror" for me.

... Ramble aside, what are some of your favorite (or often seen) recommendations for Horror LitRPG

*Edited to add that preferences to audiobook would be greatly appreciated
