[Weekly Prompt]: "Kind Magic"

[Weekly Prompt]: "Kind Magic"

Between the latest episode of Beatbreak and the existence of Witch Hat Atelier (if you know, you know), modern anime has seen a lot of good magical intentions go astray. This week, you get to play with the idea of "kind magic." What kind of Digimon represent kindness and good intentions to you? Or what would happen if those intentions went awry—something like Mephismon, perhaps? If you've ever wanted to mess with the Digimental of Kindness, now's your chance!

Brook and Demons—Pieces of a Theory

I'm not quite sure how to flair this because it's not an entire theory. It's more like "a lot of things about this are really, really suspicious." I have pieces and don't quite know how they fit. I don't know where this is heading, or if it'll amount to anything at all, but we'll know sooner rather than later.

I read Ch. 1186. Thanks to some previous notes and a spreadsheet I made, I remembered, "wait. Brook is also the only person who could have seen Demonio Fleur." (If you want to see my entire spreadsheet untangling the literary yarn ball that is Onigashima, message me.)

So I went back to Ch. 1021 and checked.

https://preview.redd.it/ohm57zm253ah1.png?width=1400&format=png&auto=webp&s=7dacfd0d88f165ecf10076de497a166bb8a7c317

It turns out Brook didn't see Demonio Fleur; the scene is cut such that he just misses her. Brook avoided possible PTSD by a hair and that's really weird. (It's also really weird that nobody else in the main cast happened to be around for that.)

Part of the reason I even thought about this is "I hope Demonio Fleur won't turn out to be bad writing down the line." (Specifically, I really hope it's not something like a Big-Lipped Alligator Moment - something strange that happens once and is never seen or spoken of again.) I think it'd be weird for Demonio Fleur not to come up in Elbaf, the arc with actual demons.

Also, Robin, the character most concerned with lore, is away from the lore-centric action. It's not out-of-character, but again, suspicious.

Ch. 1186 also had Imu combining with Marcus Mars. It's not the first time fusion has happened, but this time, it made me go "wait a minute—Imu's a demon who can fuse!" That's from Devilman (which is way over the heads of some of the audience, but still). The Devilman references in One Piece are deeper than I thought ("could the entire idea of Devil Fruits be a Go Nagai reference?"), but Demonio Fleur is definitely one of them. Imu might be, too.

Again, I've just been mentally noting pieces. I hope they add up to something. Does anyone have thoughts?

[Weekly Prompt] Digimon Sun and Moon

Now, now, let's not talk about who did what split version first! The Olympos XII just got new Pendulum lists. Since we don't even have names for the new Rookies (which I adore, BTW!), it's not fair to tell y'all to make lines off of them. (That said, I also don't think it's fair to put them in spoiler jail when we do get names. Open to thoughts on this.)

Instead...has it ever occurred to anyone that Coronamon and Lunamon seem stuck in official Digimon media? Apollomon and Dianamon are neat, but what if their Rookies became something else? That's really all I ask this week...but if you want more of a challenge, certain solar lion and lunar bat Pokemon are just waiting to become Digimon. ;) I know these two Rookies are fan favorites, so if you have something waiting, time to let it shine!

When/Where Did Lycanthropy Become Contagious?

Title! I'm bumming around various types of werewolves for a project and noticed that people could be cursed to be werewolves, but wondered where the idea of a bite being contagious came from. How far back does it go? (Edit: dates and sources would be great!) Curious!

[Weekly Prompt] Magicians...

...and wizards, and sorcerers, and magical girls...how many magic-user classes are there, now? I don't know, but some of them have made contracts with deceptively cute animals, and others cast magic missile at the darkness! Anything that screams "magic" to you is worth a Digimon line this week! (Yes, that includes Witch Hat Atelier. Someone made a programming code for that magic system!)

While Wizardmon was the obvious choice for Monster of the Week, don't feel limited to the residents of Witchenly (if they haven't gotten their moment in the sun, they will). It's time for another crossover opportunity! Have you ever wanted to give a magical girl a Digimon partner? Now's your chance! (Brilly Corn is halfway there anyways.) Do you think Final Fantasy's Black Mage could Digivolve? Give it a shot! Just be careful; not every cute animal will be a good partner.

[Weekly Prompt] Exercise

I could've sworn I did a sports-related prompt a while back, but I guess not! In light of summer (in the Northern Hemisphere) and the World Cup, maybe it's time for our Digimon to get some exercise! And while any sports-themed Digimon is fair game, Footmon is the Monster of the Week because of the World Cup! (Yes, I know the World Cup occurs once every four years, but here we are.)

This is also your reminder to go outside and run around, or at least go for a walk!

P.S. This was in no way inspired by the new Digimon (spoiler, we got a wild one!) or my personal conspiracy theory about Beatbreak and the VBE.

[Weekly Prompt]: Mewtwo (in Three Flavors)

This weekend marked the debut of Mega Mewtwo X and Y in Pokémon GO. Since the Greek letter prompt hinted that Mewtwo might hit a weekly prompt, why delay the inevitable? All forms of Mewtwo become Digimon this week! What stages are they? What do they Digivolve into? I don't know, but some people even suggest a Jogress with Dragon Ball characters for Mega Mewtwo X!

(P.S.- This has been another "busy weekend makes me want to flop." Also, if anyone has good ideas for a Yu-Gi-Oh!-themed prompt, hit me up; there's a good idea on the tip of my tongue, but just doing YGO characters feels too broad.)

Wanted - All the Poneglyph Work So Far

For one reason or another, people don't seem to like showing their work deciphering Poneglyphs. While I do understand some of those reasons ("I want to be the one,""what if someone does find the solution and Oda changes it?", etc.), I don't think people realize that concealing their work poisons the well for every other attempt. If you don't show what works/doesn't work, how can you expect someone else to either test your theory, improve it, or disprove it? If people don't show their work, we'll get repeated, failed attempts all doing the same things without anyone knowing what works and what doesn't.

For example, let's say you have the stance that Poneglyphs are gibberish. (I'd use the term "junk text," but that doesn't mean the same thing that it did 2 decades ago.)

Okay. What did you do to come to that conclusion? Did you try aligning Poneglyphs with the written Japanese and realize things weren't one-to-one? Did you think you needed the spoken language and stopped there? There are several reasons Poneglyphs could be gibberish and I want to know which ones people are using.

Likewise, if people have made headway, how did they do it? (I use the term "headway" pretty loosely—literally "any progress at all.")

On that note, I have a very messy Google document about my own progress on the project, including every little backslide. I'm just shy. One Piece is the biggest fandom I've ever been in (aside from Pokemon). I'd rather send this horrible hodgepodge of half-asleep, sometimes fevered musings to people privately, then post something more polished publicly. (I might need help on organizing that mess, too!)

I also have Google Sheets documenting the characters ("glyphs") on every Poneglyph and a "dictionary" of sorts logging the individual, repeated glyphs. I am missing something very specific. This specific thing, a "radical dictionary" documenting all the bits that make up glyphs, is tedious work. Hidden Island implicitly has one, but doesn't seem to be willing to share it. Again, what I have doesn't feel complete enough to post publicly, but feel free to ping me!

Basically, I am asking for raw theory materials rather than making one myself. I have two theories that need to be proven or disproven. I need to know what's already been done to do that. Thanks in advance!

[Weekly Prompt]: Ride-On Digimon

Last year, Digimon fans got a treat: we finally got to ride Digimon in Time Stranger! This had been part of the Digimon fantasy since Adventure and only got more options after that. One of the coolest things about Digimon (in my opinion) is how big they are, i.e., they are big enough to ride~~,~~ so why not focus on Digimon that can be mounts for a week?

By the way, the Monster of the Week is Monodramon. We've seen the little wyvern become pterosaurs and humanoid dragons; what else? Have fun and ride on!

[Weekly Prompt]: Ninja

Thanks to this week's Beatbreak ep, we're finally doing a prompt that people might have been waiting for: ninja! We've done spies, but this week is specifically about Japan's stealthy, tricky mercenaries. ;)

While you could do a normal line featuring Fumamon, there are also plenty of ninja characters in popular culture that could use Digimon partners. (I checked and saw at least two posts for ninja-themed Power Rangers!) If you've ever wanted to give characters from Naruto Digimon partners, this is your week—believe it!

[Weekly Prompt]: Biohazard

https://preview.redd.it/1mascgi84t1h1.png?width=640&format=png&auto=webp&s=edca5011bd092fa2c5078a9b53349e9fcff192d2

This week's episode of Beatbreak was a lot. Without getting too deep into spoilers, we had a Digimon whose existence was dangerous, a venomous dragon, and a poisonous plant. (Technically, Oleamon is also venomous, I think.) That's perfect for this week's prompt idea: biohazard!

This prompt is pretty flexible. You can go with the idea of the Digital Hazard (which looks enough like the "biohazard" symbol), things based on organic substances you don't want to touch with your bare hands, and so on. Algomon could easily fit in somewhere. ;)
