I built an Android/Android TV anime app inspired by 9anime & AniLab — looking for An App feedback

Hey everyone! 👋

I’ve been working on AniWings, an anime app focused specifically on Android mobile and Android TV.

The UI is heavily inspired by the kind of layout and navigation I liked from 9anime and AniLab, but I’ve been building my own implementation around it rather than trying to make an exact copy.

The main thing I’m trying to figure out now is whether the interface actually feels good to use on both a phone and a TV.

What I’ve built so far

  • 📱 Android Mobile + Android TV focused
  • 🌑 Dark, clean interface inspired by 9anime/AniLab
  • 🎥 Sub/Dub switching and 5 server options
  • 🔍 Anime search with detailed information
  • 🗓️ Airing schedule
  • ☁️ Watch history and favorites with Google sign-in
  • ⚡ Lightweight UI with TV-friendly navigation

👉 AniWings: Download Here

This is still version 1, so there are definitely bugs, glitches, and probably a few things hiding somewhere that I haven't found yet. 😅

Rather than just asking people to "try my app", I'm specifically looking for feedback on the UI/UX:

  • Does the navigation make sense on Android TV?
  • Does the interface feel too much like 9anime/AniLab or does it feel distinct enough?
  • Is anything difficult to find?
  • What would you change about the home screen or anime details page?
  • Are there any features that would make the experience better on TV?

If you have a few minutes to test it, I'd genuinely appreciate criticism and suggestions. I'm still actively developing it, so feedback can actually influence what I work on next.

Looking for Ideas: Custom Video Player for Third-Party Anime Streams

I've been working on an anime streaming app with a UI inspired by AniLab (not a clone, just a similar interface and navigation style). The app itself is mostly done, but I'm running into an issue with video playback.

Most providers (like HiAnime and similar sources) serve videos through their own embedded player with built-in controls. Because of that, I can't easily replace it with a native custom player in my app. The provider's player handles play, pause, fullscreen, quality selection, subtitles, and everything else.

I'm curious how other developers approach this.

  • Do you just keep the provider's embedded player inside your app?
  • Or is there a way to extract the video stream and use a completely custom player while still supporting subtitles, quality switching, and the provider's other features?
  • Has anyone found a clean solution that works reliably across multiple providers?

I'd love to hear your thoughts or experiences. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated!

A new anime streaming platform currently in development

Hey everyone,

Recently a lot of anime sites and scrapers have been going down, and seeing all that made me want to start building something on my own.

So I’ve been working on an anime project called AniWings.

Right now the main focus is making the site feel clean, smooth, and modern instead of overly complicated.

Currently working on:

• modern UI
• smooth desktop experience
• anime detail pages
• tracking / continue watching
• AniList + MAL sync support
• more detailed anime information and metadata
• faster browsing and cleaner layout

Most of the section itself is actually working pretty well right now — the main thing still missing is stable video playback.

The watch section is still heavily work in progress because I don’t have reliable scrapers yet, and a lot of recent scrapers people used have been falling apart lately.

So for now I’m mainly polishing the platform and improving the overall experience first.

The day AniWings can properly stream anime reliably without issues — that’s probably the day I’ll publicly launch it.

Until then I’m just improving things step by step.

Would love to hear suggestions, ideas, or features you’d want to see in something like this 🙏.
