Why did American music across multiple genres become so much more aggressive in the 90s and early 2000s?

I’m completely ignorant about music history, but it seems like American music in the 90s and early 2000s took on a much more aggressive tone than previous decades. Social unrest explains some of it, but there was a lot of social unrest in decades prior without such elevated aggression in the music. can anyone explain why this was the case?

It’s like a little slice of history, a little reminder that I wasted my money using Beckett, it’s so wonderful! little random contaminants on the inside of my slab make me so happy!
