Summary of My Lenovo Yoga + Dock Sleep Problem
Summary of My Lenovo Yoga + Dock Sleep Problem
I’m using a Lenovo Yoga laptop with a Lenovo USB‑C dock, and ever since the first time I plugged the dock in, sleep has been broken in a very specific way.
What happened originally
- The first time I connected the dock, my laptop crashed and went into what looked like a BIOS recovery/update.
- Ever since that crash, lid‑closed sleep has been broken.
Current behavior
- Lid open → sleep works normally.
- Lid open → close lid → sleep works normally.
- Lid closed → put to sleep → screen turns off, then immediately wakes back up.
- If I reboot, lid‑closed sleep will work ONE time, then it breaks again.
- The dock’s power button does nothing.
What I’ve already ruled out
- Not the monitor (sleep still fails with the monitor unplugged).
- Not the HDMI cable.
- Not the printer (unplugged it from the Always‑On USB port).
- Not USB devices (tested with everything disconnected).
- Not the dock power button.
- Not Windows settings like wake timers.
What seems to be happening
The initial dock crash likely corrupted the Yoga’s Modern Standby (S0ix) power state.
Yogas don’t support Legacy S3 sleep, so lid‑closed sleep relies entirely on S0ix. After the first sleep cycle, something in the power state gets stuck and immediately wakes the system every time the lid is closed.
What I’ve tried
- Full power drain reset
- Disconnecting all peripherals
- Testing sleep with and without the dock
- Testing sleep with and without the monitor
- Testing sleep with and without the printer
The core issue Lid‑closed sleep fails unless I reboot first, and the problem started immediately after the dock caused
