What Games *Actually* Need a Remake

I’ve been playing a shit ton of PS1 / PS2 survival horror games like Fatal Frame, Kuon, and Silent Hill 4, and honestly most of these games don’t really *need* to be remade. Not only are they pretty accessible via emulation, but they hold up great! I mean I didn’t grow up playing these at all, but I’ve had no problem getting into the kinda clunkier feel of the early stuff.

Except for one game… Rule of Rose. It’s a great game in all ways except one… what’s the deal with the combat guys. It is straight up broken. A full remake of this game would elevate it to one of the best of all time. Honestly, the graphics are fine. Having a combat system that’s fun and engaging would be amazing. Are there any other games you can think of that actually need a remake and aren’t just old enough to justify one (I’ve loved the RE remakes but let’s be real, RE4 didn’t *need* a remake).

First Fatal Frame 1 Play Through

I've been really enjoying the game so far. Just finally placed the blinding mask and opening the big ritual door, but I have got to say... please tell me I never have to fight that blind lady ever again. That fight is so incredibly frustrating. After sludging my way through that fight again and again and again it just feels like a total crap shoot because I do not know what I am doing.

I know she is blind and to be quiet. I try to move as little as possible and only walking speed but she seems to hear me no matter what I do. I try to only do the zero shots so she doesn't dive bomb me but she just teleports behind me half way through the aim most the time.

Sometimes when she jumps at me she doesn't do damage, I've noticed this with other ghosts too. In my head I've correlated it with spinning the joystick really fast right as they are coming at me, but that has had very little consistency. Is there a good way to not take damage? I feel like every fight I am tanking so many hits. I am willing to accept I am just bad at the game (often the case), but is there a trick I'm missing here?? The game may have told me this and I just missed it.

This is my only gripe with the game essentially, so if I'm doing something wrong please let me know!

Good Silent Hill Video Essay Recommendations?

I have been playing through all the silent hill games and would love to listen to some analysis about the themes / symbolism of the games, but every time I look up videos it feels like every single one is one of those “book report” essays where they just go over the plot.

Basically I’m not interested in listening to someone dryly repeat what I just played, but really want to listen to someone talk about what Silent Hill represents if that makes sense.

Any recommendations? Ideally something that goes a little bit past the whole “haha it’s a Craigslist therapist” joke which feels like it hollows out the actual emotion of the games into a little joke in my opinion.

Tank Control Survival Horror

I've recently found out I'm a huge fan of tank control survivor horror. Much more so than the more action oriented or modern control games (tho I love those too). I played through RE1-3, Code Veronica, 0, RE1R, Silent Hill 2 and 3, and Crow Country, and loved them all!

Are there any other classics that I should definitely play next? I know I'll play Silent Hill 1 and 4, but would love other recommendations! Bonus points if I can emulate it on PS2 or GameCube instead of spending money, but absolutely happy to pay for indie stuff!

Finally Playing the Original Resident Evil 2!! Any advice to a Novice??

I've played the remakes of 2, 3, and 4, as well as the original of RE1 and RE4, and all of 7-9. (Working my way through RE5, but my boyfriend isn't a big survival horror person, so I've been doing it solo style).

Instantly love the atmosphere and feel of RE2. It definitely feels much harder than the original RE1 for me, but for some reason I prefer its overall feel. Have had so much fun banging my head against walls. I made it to the police station and have been taking notes on all the puzzles I've encountered so far, but I keep getting my ass kicked by the licker and hordes of zombies. Any advice for a person who kinda sucks at video games? I will not be playing on easy because I love the pain, and have so far been avoiding guides purely because of preference.
