My two cents on Chitra Banejee
(Scroll down for TLDR)
Chitra used to be my favourite author of all time back then, there are still some of her books that are close to my heart.
Though, when we talk about *The Palace of Illusions*, it exploited the sense of feminism which was supposed to be an adaptation of the Epic tale Mahabharata from Draupadi’s view.
It was disappointing, It didn’t come off as something unique, and it seemed as if the author was deliberately trying to highlight Karuna.
The writing was male-centric and the ending was anti-climactic. She was shown suppressed over men, even till the end.
Whilst keeping the disappointment of this book in mind, *The Forest of Enchantments* and *The Independence* are a beautiful read. I wish the author was more conscious about how and why she has written good too.
All the interviews that I have seen of this woman, she only tells one tale, how she has been inspired for all the books, all the same way. I wish there was more ambiguity to a good book that she writes.
TLDR:
- Chitra Banerjee is a good author, but her book is exploiting the meaning of what she’s trying to portray.
- She has some good books too, hope she’s conscious about her good writes, and build uniqueness in her writing.
