Syracuse JDi Externships and Class Questions

Hello everyone! I just talked to a Syracuse representative, and I wanted to clarify some of the conversation I had with current Syracuse students since what we talked about and what I can find online seem different. I’m wondering if these are new policies or something.

  1. The representative told me that externships were totally optional — not required. I’m wondering if anyone else has any experience with that and what it means for an externship to be optional. Does that mean it’s not worth credit? Do you get credit elsewhere?

  2. She also mentioned that students are only in one class at a time that lasts 12 weeks. I’m wondering how that works out — if those classes basically have a lot of credits or how you can get enough credits to graduate. I’m also curious about selecting a time/day. She said you can choose what evening of the week that you want to take the synchronous portion of the class. I’m wondering how that scheduling has worked for current students!

  3. Most take the program in 4 years, but she mentioned the possibility of accelerating it to three or so. I’m curious if anyone here has done / is doing that while also working full time and how feasible that has been.

Thank you guys!

Interested but worried about cost

Hey guys,

I currently work in a law office and am very interested in pursuing a JD Hybrid program. Here are my stats

GPA: 3.9
LSAT: 155

My main worry is finances. I have a family. My wife works and so do I, but we make simple money. Nothing fancy. I’m just very against the idea of going into lots of debt for a program especially since I’m mainly interested in public defense which isn’t on the higher end of attorney incomes.

I’m wondering if any of you guys have managed to do this with no or minimal debt. And if so, how did you go about achieving that?

What makes a good legal assistant?

I just got hired as a legal assistant, and I’m wondering what characteristics and skills the best legal assistants have. It’s my first introduction into working in law. I understand that the position works with clients often and initial contact, but I’m wondering about specific skills, information, or anything else that I should learn about or be aware of as I enter this new position!

Exterminator used diatomaceous earth but it feels like too much?

I’m based in Spain. This is the third visit from the exterminators and they said they’d use diatomaceous earth this time — well I’m pretty sure. He said “tierra” (which means earth in English) so I’m assuming that’s what he meant.

When I got home tonight after the 12 hour wait period, I found it spread in the sockets (the bugs’ known hiding spot) and the wall like this. Everything I’ve read about DE says this is too much. There’s even some on my bedside table where I put my stuff.

They’re closed for the weekend, so I can’t contact them until Monday. I’m pretty worried about breathing the stuff in. I was wondering what you people here would suggest based on your experience? I really don’t want to damage my wife or my lungs just because we’re trying to fight bed bugs. I also don’t want to mess up the work they did. So any advice would help. Thank you
