Dean on rewatch

First time I saw the show, I couldn't stand miserable Dean. Warmed to him during the end.

But on rewatches he is much better. The later seasons give you the context that he has been stuck there with people he barely tolerates for years. He makes more sense, and all is forgiven.

Anyone else feel this way?

Character Assassinations

It's been a few years since I last watched the show. Probably was when it switched to animated.

I just decided to put on episode 1 and it's such a difference.

Julian is a criminal but he has a heart and cares about his community. The way he defeats Cyrus is nothing short of heroic. But he's never funny. He works as a straight man because he's the hero and is trying to improve himself.

Ricky is pure comedy, and also has a heart under the criminal exterior.

Bubbles is pure innocence and wise.

They are at odds with Lahey, but there is respect there too on some level.

Then there's a massive cast of side characters introduced in 20 mins who you get to know, really filling up the atmosphere, and most of them hilarious in different ways. Randy, J Roc, T, the Roc Pile, Corey and Trevor, Ray, Lucy, Sarah, Trinity, Jacob, and the villain Cyrus.

You get to later seasons.

Julian is self serving, no longer a hero with respect for other park members. He's just looking for a get-rich-quick scheme at any cost. Still not funny. So very unlikable.

Ricky loses a lot of his heart too.

Bubbles becomes whiny and constantly emotionally blackmailing his 'friends'.

The extended cast is mostly gone.

It makes it hard to watch.

Public misconceptions about shows

There are sometimes things people say that tell you 'they have not actually watched the show'.

Like people who say they don't like 'One Foot in the Grave' because it's about a grumpy old man.

Watch the show. Victor Meldrew is pretty much always entirely justified to be annoyed by the situations. He is generally a polite, well meaning, creative person with a sense of humour. If anything, his wife Margaret is the one who doesn't take things well.

Or people who say 'Rising Damp' is racist. No, the landlord is a racist character who is the butt of the jokes. His black tenant is a well-educated, successful, great guy who always wins the day.

Do you know any other shows that might need a better reputation in the public eye in a similar way?

Crash and Spyro crossover mod?

This has probably been talked about before, but I couldn't find anything on it.

Is there a way to play Crash with Spyro and vice versa? Or is it being worked on?

Not a skin swap. An actual full move set character dropped into the other game.

I met Chris Barrie today. I asked him an important question.

"Which Rimmer are we watching now?"

"What do you mean? When?"

"Like in the latest series of Dwarf. Is it the Rimmer who went off to become Ace, or the one who was brought back in season 8 and died again, or maybe another?"

"Oh. I'll have to pass on that one. That's a question for Doug Naylor."
