Can we claim a refund from Klarna for a fraudulent Booking.com property?

My friends booked a property in Bath through Booking.com for 29 August. One friend paid for the booking using Klarna’s Pay Later option—not Pay in 3.

Since booking, we’ve discovered several reviews saying that the property is fake and that previous guests were unable to access or stay at it. The owner is completely unresponsive, and we’ve also found evidence that the owner’s company has gone into liquidation.

We have contacted Booking.com, but so far they haven’t resolved the issue or provided a refund. We have screenshots of the reviews, our unanswered messages to the owner and the company’s liquidation information.

As the booking was paid through Klarna Pay Later, can my friend dispute the transaction directly with Klarna and get the money back? Should she report the purchase as fraudulent or as a service that won’t be provided? We want to resolve this before we are due to travel on 29 August.

Has anyone successfully claimed money back from Klarna in a similar situation?

Booking.com refusing to refund us for an apparently fake Bath property — owner completely unresponsive

My friends and I are due to travel to Bath UK on 29 August, and we booked accommodation through Booking.com.

We have since found numerous reviews saying that the property is fake and that other guests have been left without accommodation. We have also discovered that the company connected to the property has been liquidated.

We have repeatedly tried contacting the property owner but have received absolutely no response. Booking.com has also been contacted, but so far they are doing nothing to resolve the situation or issue us a refund.

We do not feel safe travelling and simply hoping the property exists when there is substantial evidence suggesting that it doesn’t. We could arrive in Bath with nowhere to stay, yet Booking.com appears unwilling to refund us before check-in.

Has anyone experienced this before? How did you get Booking.com to escalate the case to its Fraud or Security team and issue a refund? Should we raise a chargeback with our bank or take any other action?
