Am I Wrong for reporting my sister to the police for her April Fools “prank”
I (18F) can legally drink in the UK. My twin sister has loved drinking. She gets drunk and patty’s all the time. She has asked me to go clubbing with her. But Ive refused. I like more quieter scenes and don’t drink because I hate the taste of alcohol and hate the thought of getting drunk.
Last month on April 1st my sister “pranked” me. She made me a cup of squash. Instead of using water for the squash she used straight vodka. I took a sip and immediately spat it out. My sister started hysterically laughing. I told her it’s not funny and that tasted horrible and burned. She said it’s April Fools lighten up.
I told my parents who were on my side and told her off. She left the house upset and went out with her friends. I messaged her telling her to come back she shouldn’t have given me alcohol without my consent. She told me Im a baby and it was just a joke. A week afterwards she had just finished legal issues she had.
She has trauma from the police because they didn’t make an arrest about traumatic things someone had done to her as a child. And since her arrest had even more trauma and hatred for them because of unfair treatment and what she felt like the consequences didn’t fit what happened.
For days afterwards even though it was over she was in bed depressed. Saying to my parents that her life is over and people are going to judge her forever and she probably won’t be able to have her dream job of working in a foster home because of her criminal record.
She was in a really bad mood about it and was taking it out on me. And I told her shes a terrible sister and literally drugged me I should be the one taking it out on her. She again brushed it off and I decided to file a police report. I told them about the drugging and gave them the screenshot evidence of her admitting it.
Yesterday the police called her asking her to go in for an interview about it. She started screaming on the phone saying she doesn’t know why I said that and they’re just looking for trouble with her.
When she came off the phone she confronted me calling me names. My parents also didn’t know about the report and was freaking out at me. My dad took my sister to the police station. While my mother was screaming at me saying that I know she’s struggling with the police. And that she made a “lapse in judgment” with the joke. And it was too far of a joke but it wasn’t malicious. I said if I want to report it I can.
She was only there for the interview she was back same day. My mother has called the police saying that this is all blown out of proportion and that my sister didn’t mean this in a bad way but they said they have to take the report seriously unless I change my mind.
I doubt they’ll do much anyway. But Im not going to change my mind. My sister has been in bed crying all day today. And my parents won’t stop pestering me but I feel like it’s my decision.
