Petrol price vs the brent crude price (usd)
This chart compares global crude oil prices (blue line) with petrol prices in India (red line) from 2006 to 2026. From 2006 to 2012, both lines generally move upward together. As crude oil prices increased globally, petrol prices in India also rose. For example, crude oil went from around $66 per barrel in 2006 to over $110 in 2011–12, while petrol prices increased from about ₹45 to ₹71 per litre.
After 2014, an interesting divergence appears. Global crude oil prices fell sharply, dropping from about $99 in 2014 to nearly $45 by 2016. However, petrol prices in India did not fall proportionally
