Black Identity and the new idea of Blackness

Lately I’ve been seeing more of the black community referring to keep it pure and not diluted. You can go on any social media and see an individual harassing interracial couples, targeting the black individual and saying why can’t you keep it pure your diluting the race. Move to the comment section and there are 10000’s of comments saying “don’t dilute”, “keep it pure”, “it is this serious”.

I can divulge for 1000’s of days because most of the time this is directed towards black women. Studies have shown black women receive the most backlash in interracial relationships from the community. On top of that, we’re literally upholding the same shackles of colonialism and white supremacy that has entrapped us for years.

My point is, what do y’all think? No answer is the wrong answer but with reasoning. I genuinely want to understand the opposing perspective.

Where are the black communities on the north side? Nonreligious?

Where are the north side black communities meeting? I'm 19F, Black and a full-time student. One thing that's been hard especially on the north side is finding community, on top of that finding non-religious black community based groups.

I love being involved in community advocacy, grassroots organizations, book clubs, and creative spaces. Although many times community advocacy groups that are black based also have religion as the foundation to their organization, volunteers, etc. I'm looking for a space where it's completely okay to not heavily be interested in Christianity, Catholicism, etc.

Chicago Black Women - Nonbelievers

I'm 19F, looking for the black women who are not heavily interested in religion. Since moving to Chicago, the scene especially at a private university feels heavily religious. Obviously I think it's amazing for every individual to have the choice in their spiritual practice, although what's been heavily obvious is many times they cannot be okay or understanding with another black person not being religious.

It's been pretty clear that it isn't normalized in our community to be a non-believer. Lots of organizations in Chicago that used to host meet-ups no longer really are present.

So if your in Chicago city area, where are we meeting other black women not heavily involved or dedicated to a specific religion.

Dismissal in Healthcare

I'm kind of upset today on a significant level. I've experienced iron deficiency all my life but lately I've had a significant drop leaving my hemoglobin at the point of emergency blood transfusions. I went to a hematologist. The doctor not black or female would not recommend anything further than iron transfusions. They kept attributing it to periods although I've always had a heavy menstrual cycle. They then do not take any other blood tests and recommend iron transfusions. My white partner jumps in and agrees that maybe it's birth control. They obviously did not know at that time the doctor was dismissing me. Though it makes me upset because they are not there to speak unless it's to advocate more for me. I've had multiple tests come back abnormal results indicators of hemophilia, thalassemia, and more. I'm enraged, as a public health and healthcare admin major I knew I was going into that appointment fighting 10x harder. Obviously I'm getting a second opinion. Though how often does this happen to everyone else.?

Black Art Recommendations

Where are we finding unique prints of Black people? NO AI GENERATED OR INFLUENCED art pieces or wall art. It's crazy how much damage data centers are doing to our communities and how many black businesses, entrepreneurs and artists are using it. Canva is free and on top of that if your generating art from artificial intelligence you are not a real artist. I said what I said. 🤷‍♀️

Anemia linked to blood disorders?

I’ve had anemia for as long as I can remember (12) and now 19. Since turning 18, I’ve had a long line of hormonal issues linked to endometriosis, seizures caused by estrogens and now severe anemia depletion and hemoglobin. Upon further testing a pathology determined I had helmet shaped blood cells and other abnormal red blood cells. Many of my cells are smaller or larger due to lack of oxygen and some not even complete circles. I do not have a B12 deficiency or low levels. I’ve explored for years the root cause but no one can really come up with an answer. Here’s a CBC panel, Iron panel and HEMOGLOBINOPATHY evaluation. I’d like to know if anyone’s in a similar situation or have heard of similar symptoms to mine. Obviously no one’s a medical professional but guidance is appreciated.

I am currently a little over 1.5 weeks post-op. My period has been the devil itself, lingering back pain and cramping, and this feeling of heavy pressure sitting on my rectum. I inserted kyleena during my laprascopy.

Everyone talks about post-op care but no one really talks about what happens after laparoscopy? What lifestyle changes did everyone make. How does anyone manage their health after? For me, I still have other unknown issues lingering like extremely low hemoglobin and iron in a fast amount of time. Which I believe is unrelated to my periods and another lingering health concern. I'm still managing pain, fatigue, etc from other issues.

So how does everyone move forward after and what is everyone doing to manage their health and continue their journey. Since excision isn't necessarily a cure and kyleena is just management not a cure.

I have truly been thinking about this for a while. So black hairstylists and tattoo artists often know how to work with a range of black complexions and white skin tones. White hairstylists or white tattoo artists often don’t have any experience with black skin or hair. So we spend hours finding the right hairstylist and the best tattoo artist for what we want. Then we're expected not to be mad that we have to go through 10 more doors for the same situation..? I complained yesterday that a tatt artist who does beautiful tattoos does not tattoo any darker complexions. She had no work shown and when I messaged her asking if she worked with darker complexions she left me on delivered for a month. I genuinely just think it's exhausting that we will always have 10 more things to think about when their the most basic things. Why can't we have the cutesy and creative..? It's outrageous because they'll still expect us to cater to them while they actively disregard us.

Anyone know any artist doing whimsy work that knows how to tat on darker skin. Their are so many artist that do beautiful work in color with all the pretty little details. Then reveal they have either never tatted black skin or the work they have done looks rough. So, if anyone knows an artist in the chi area doing similar tattoos let me know. You may think why not ask the artist who did the image, and truth be told they have no work on darker black complexions and had no response to if they could do black skin.. 😂
