I can’t w the micro-aggressions from fans
Maybe I’m on the wrong side of TikTok, but I’ve been seeing too many people with really tone deaf jokes made about the cast of Season 3. I’ve got two examples, so I will disclaim they’re both about racism and transphobia.
Wayyyy too many people are comfortable joking about the actor for Bishop’s hair, comparing him to sheep and animated sheep characters. This feels like such a micro-aggression towards black people and their specific hair textures. It’s really tone deaf and ignorant to be literally comparing a person of colours hair to an animal- and I would overlook this if the actor had any similar features to the cartoon sheep everyone used as an example. But he doesn’t, so people are obviously fixated on his hair and this is a mockery of it. Maybe I’m the friend that’s too woke, let me know what you guys think of this. (Also taking into consideration history of black face and mockery of black/African hair textures)
Also in the recent episode when Jules slaps Rue I saw a tiktok of this woman laughing at it, proceeding to say Jules has “man strength” alluding to the fact that Hunter Schafer and her character Jules is transgender. As a trans woman myself this rlly rubbed me the wrong way because the comments were so incredibly uneducated. So many people saying she still has man strength and you can’t rewrite biology which is incorrect. Being on HRT such as testosterone blockers and oestrogen reduce muscle mass, which means majority of trans women have the muscle mass of a biological female. Maybe it just pains me to see so many audience members turning on a show that we all perceived as progressive in season one, and we collectively critiqued the misogyny that developed within the writing. I would’ve never expected Euphoria fans to be so ignorant and intolerant of people of colour as well as trans women. Am I taking a huge stretch?? I’m pretty sure this is valid.
