Swapped light switches for hallway lights. Only works with the switches in certain positions.

I am replacing old rocker switches with decorator 3-way switches. On each end are a trio of wires (pictured). I wired them how I remember them on the old switches. I know I should have taken a picture. The lights only turn on with the switches on specific positions. I tried using a multimeter tool to determine which wire is the hot but I get no reading (multimeter confirmed working in an outlet nearby).

Any suggestions would be helpful. I’m a new homeowner new to electrical work.

So I posted a couple of weeks ago. I followed some advice from that post and bought Orbit latching solenoids with an Orbit battery controller. However when I turn the valve back on (the light green knob) the sprinklers all turn on as if I were manually turning them on when we purchased the house. I am new to this so I’m not sure what troubleshooting steps to take next.
