Falcon/Blades Disc Drive Issues

I’ve got a Falcon (November of 08) with a Blades dash.

The laser was just replaced.

When inserting a game the disc drive will spin up to full speed as it should, then a few seconds later on a games start up screen it will slow down for a few seconds & then spin back up to full speed. While playing it will slow down & then ramp right back up (at times).

On occasion I’ll get a no read error on the dash.

On occasion I get the “To play this disc, put it into an Xbox 360 Console.”. I eject the disc & close the tray & it will start up normally.

Any ideas?

Shotty work on the laser?

Just replace the drive?

Dimension 4500 DVD Drive Not Working?

Reconditioning this 2003 Dimension 4500. The DVD drive would not open but just needed a new drive belt. Cleaned the entire system, new thermal paste, new drive belts/cleaned lasers, greased, etc…

After assembly the DVD drive (Samsung Master 16E/SD-616) opens as it should. However, inserting a DVD or compatible game it will attempt to read & not spin up the disc. It sounds like the motor is attempting to spin, etc (video attached).

When I go to device manager it shows that “The device is working properly” under device statice but under location it shows “Location 0 (0)”. Since this is a two drive tower I’m not sure if the first drive is meant to be 0 or 1 under location or 1 & 2 under drive location.

CD-RW drive works as it should.

Any insight?

Bad IDE connections, motor bad/replace the drive fully, etc?

Dimension 4500 - Thermal Paste or Thermal Pad?

I picked up a Dimension 4500 & I’m reconditioning it. I removed the factory/pink thermal pad. Should I use thermal paste (I have MX-4) or apply a thermal pad?
