Star Trek Armada II

Hi Everyone,

Posted a couple of days ago about Star Trek Armada 2, and someone recommended GOG, which was great. So as any good Trekkie, I bought it so I can replay one of my favorite games. However, I kept running into issues trying to play it. The game would try to start and immediately crash. Since it's a 2002 game, it doesn't play nice with modern hardware. I tried everything: compatibility mode for Windows XP, windowed mode through GOG's DirectX settings, the fan-made Patch Project 1.2.5, and even a DirectX wrapper called dxwrapper. Nothing worked. I kept getting access violation errors and Direct3D crashes. What finally got it working was installing dgVoodoo2, which translates the old DirectX 8 graphics calls into something modern GPUs can actually handle. Even after that, I had to tweak the resolution settings outside the game since the in-game graphics menu is broken and freezes if you click it. It took hours of troubleshooting but the game finally runs.

Has anyone run into similar issues, and if so how did you fix it?

“You can’t mandate this culture shift,” says man who mandated it

CEO bans engineers from manually writing code, then explains the lesson is that you “can’t mandate” culture change.

The comments are somehow even better: one person asks about hallucinations, another says “I’m also a fucking ball,” and LinkedIn still manages to turn it into a leadership seminar.

AI-assisted coding? Sure.

“Claude Code only” as a management philosophy? Absolute LinkedIn brain rot.

Folks not understanding science

I saw this and was just amazed by the lack of understanding of science. A bunch of the comments are basically explaining that's not how reproduction works. I'd be okay with it, except this person is 55 years old.

I truly worry for the human race .
