Finished Ninja Gaiden Master Collection. Here are my thoughts:

I just finished Ninja Gaiden 3, and I thought it would be nice to compile a list of my feelings, both good and bad, on each game. I got the collection for $22 on Switch Online.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma - Hero Mode

  • I was not expecting them to put demons in this series. When they first introduced the fiends, it made me wonder if they were riding off of Devil May Cry's success, but I get why they added it. It's easier to design more unique enemies when they're creatures compared to humans.
  • The worm boss is absolute garbage. After playing all three games, might be my least favorite bosses. As much as I hated the helicopter and T-Rex in 3, at least you only fight them once. The tanks and helicopters were bad too.
  • This game not having proper saves was so annoying. I remember dying after the fight with Gamov as Ryu and I had to redo it all over again.
  • Speaking of which, I wish they did more with Gamov. He was cool.
  • I got lost numerous times and had to look up where to go sometimes.
  • The dual swords were really fun.
  • In terms of the general combat, I think it's better than DMC1 (I played the first game this year too).
  • Rachel's design is so ridiculous that I love it. I like her as a character too, even if it was one-note. She's a homie. When she got slapped by Doku and it cut to her on the floor with her boobs still shaking, I died.
  • Thank god for Hero Mode or else the final bosses would have been far more frustrating. I just spammed fire ninpo because I didn't want to do that stupid run out of the volcano over and over.
  • Even if it was sometimes hard to use, the ninja movement is super cool.
  • Doku's cool.
  • OVERALL: Not my favorite, but it set the groundwork for the future games.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 - Normal Mode

  • Combat feels a lot better. I thought the finishing moves would get stale, but they never stopped feeling satisfying.
  • I used a good handful of the weapons for different situations, mainly the dragon sword, eclipse scythe, and the kursari-gama. Ironically enough, I didn't use the tonfa at all, and people said it's the best weapon. Oops LOL
  • Genshin is easily the best villain. Not a super complex character at all, but he's still super cool and was a perfect opponent for Ryu.
  • I love the variety of different locations you go to. Kept things fresh.
  • Besides the Water Dragon, Gigadeath, and the first phase of the final bosses, all of the bosses were pretty cool with great designs.
  • The weapon upgrade system is my favorite, even if it meant I was just overflowing with karma the entire game. Due to how accessible it was, it made me more comfortable with experimenting without worrying they'd be weaker than the ones I was using.
  • Muramasa is the GOAT. They should make him playable either in this game or DOA.
  • It was cool to play as Ayane, Rachel, and Momiji, but aside from Ayane's, the other two's didn't really have a point to me. I thought that kid was gonna be important later on but nope. I'm sure it's just extra stuff added later, though, so I can't complain.
  • Elizabet being flushed down the blood toilet was hilarious LOL.
  • I really like Irene. I was kind of shocked she wasn't Rachel's sister trying to owe Ryu back for saving her.
  • The ability to use your ninja senses to find where to go was a fantastic addition. Helped a lot.
  • FINALLY! SAVING!

OVERALL: LOVED this game. I might actually go back and play it on harder difficulties. It was worth the collection just for this game alone.

Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge - Normal Mode for the First Half, switched to Hero for the second.

  • Steel on Bone is AWESOME. So satisfying and I wish I had a better understanding of how it worked, but when I did do it, it was so fun. I felt like a killing machine.
  • Ryu's relationship with Canna was cute. Again, not the most amazing, unique thing in the world, but it added some depth to Ryu.
  • The first half of this game was so frustrating. It was the adjustment phase, I get it, but I feel some of the parts like the desert level and the labs were some of the worst parts of the series. I ended up changing to Hero after the T-Rex fight just because I wanted to have a less annoying experience.
  • I tried using the slow motion mechanic you guys told me about, and I still just found aiming so frustrating. Whenever I wanted to get rid of people shooting rockets at me, I was being bombarded by enemies that interrupted me.
  • I don't like the quick time stuff at all.
  • Kunai climbing sucks ass. It's clunky. I don't know why it gives you the option to let go when I don't think there's any point in the game where you have to let go.
  • I have no clue what the hell was up with Theodore. He's mind controlled, saves us from Cliff, and helps us get to Canna. Cool, but then all of the sudden he's like "WAIT A SECOND! Ryu kill daughter.........kill = dead daughter!" He seemed so chill with us the entire time until that point, and then despite that, he heals us from our curse. It was just back and forth in a matter of minutes. AND THE DAUGHTER LIVES ANYWAY SO THAT WAS ALL FOR NOTHING.
  • I still hate the Alchemists, but I also hated the biomutants, specifically the big one.
  • A lot of the deaths were pretty anti-climactic. Lovelace especially was built up to be a bigger character, but she dies so soon. I have heard this game had some issues though, so that could be why. I wish we got to kill Cliff too instead of him just fading away.
  • Since I was on hero mode, I didn't have many issues with The Goddess. I actually think it's a tragic fight. The sounds she makes has the vibe of a child throwing a tantrum out of pain. It's kind of ruined now that I know she lives in the end.
  • I wish Irene got to do more. It's weird she didn't come help out when Joe and Momiji did.
  • It was neat seeing Hayabusa Village alive and well.
  • There was a Crystal Skull in this one area with tubes and for some reason I couldn't pick it up.

OVERALL: Even though I'm not a big fan of this game, I do respect that it exists at all. The fact they wanted to apologize for the original release tells me they do care.

In the end, would I say Ninja Gaiden Collection was worth it? Yes. Even with my gripes with 1 and 3, I don't regret playing them. I love learning more about franchises that a lot of people love. I also wanted to thank this community for their advice and input on the series. You were all awesome.

Thoughts of Ninja Gaiden 3

Started Ninja Gaiden 3 today. I just beat Day 2 and I already have some thoughts.

  1. I dunno what the hell they did with the controls. I’m still having trouble getting used to the aiming being with L. Other things too like the guide being on the R stick feel off. Maybe it’s just because I’m jumping from 2, but I felt 2s controls just flowed better.

  2. Speaking of aiming, I swear the auto aim just didn’t used to be this bad. I remember just pressing the arrow button helped me hit enemies, but when I need it most it just doesn’t hit them. I hate using the actual aim because when I need it, I’m already getting blasted in the face over and over.

  3. Combat is fine. I still like 2s more, but it’s fine. When you get to completely stab through multiple enemies one after the other felt so damn good.

  4. The villain is already super lame. He just sounds like some loser who thinks he’s super deep, though maybe that’s the point and if so that would be awesome LOL. I doubt he’ll come close to how awesome Genshin is.

  5. I don’t like the kunai climbing it’s just clunky, annoying, and slow.

  6. Those mage enemies you fight in Day 2 were so annoying. It felt like they had way more health than they should.

  7. You guys were right. The helicopter fight was atrociously bad. It just spammed so many things at you. It’s what made me hate the auto aim. I could have really used it to take out those rocket men so I could dodge out of the way but I guess not. Didn’t think I’d fight a boss I’d hate more than the worms, but that’s still up in the air. Those worms in 1 are genuinely one of the worst bosses I have ever played from an entertainment perspective.

  8. The codec stuff is annoying. Reminds me of Focus, M LOL.

  9. I really like the idea of Ryu’s killing coming back to haunt him. I’m very interested to see where the story goes with the blood arm.

That’s all I have to say. You guys were super cool on my last post, and I really appreciate it. I hope I enjoy this game a little more.

I beat Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2

I got the Master Collection on sale recently. I beat Ninja Gaiden Sigma and honestly didn’t really enjoy it, so I was going into 2 with pretty low expectations, but oh my god, I had a blast. It’s easy, I know, but I really don’t care. It was just so much fun from beginning to end. It basically fixed all of my problems with the first game. One of my favorite games I played this year, easily.

I HOPE THE ENTIRE SPECIES GOES EXTINCT

Potentially the worst enemy in the whole game. Hate them with a burning passion.

Party House

I‘ve been looking up tier lists of the games ranked and I’m so happy everyone agrees that Party House is excellent. It’s so addicting.

Pilot Quest Enemies and Bosses Ranked

I'm coming close to cherrying Pilot Quest, and I just felt like ranking the different enemies in the game, cause I've felt, we'll say, significant emotions from them.

As for my thoughts, I did enjoy Pilot Quest, and I did get hooked, but it does get very, very repetitive. I thought the world was going to be a little bigger, and to an extent maybe it's good it wasn't, but I am basically doing a lot of the same things over and over. However, it's what I'm working towards that kept me going. Working towards the Wizard Yo-yo and finally getting it was so satisfying. I haven't used it yet, but I know it'll feel great when I do.

Also the game has great sprites. I love the side view of Pilot.

As a game about exploring a world, though, Mini & Max just clears.

The People of Ossex SUCK (AKA: The Scene)

I beat Mina the Hollower yesterday, and I loved it. Best game I played this year without a doubt, and I honestly doubt anything will beat it.

When I got to the Lionel dinner scene, though, I can't remember the last time a game made me so hateful towards fictional characters. I wanted to go over each of Mina's different "crimes" and whether or not that hate was justified, because our girl did not deserve this slander.

Again, I know "that's the point", but I just have to vent.

  1. 10,000 Wisps: Never actually did that part, so I don't have the full context.
  2. Touching the Pet: SHE WAS JUST TRYING TO PET THE PET. It's not like she was beating it up. I guess she could have asked, but that's such a nothing burger.
  3. The Bright "Friend": TRIED TO KILL ME.
  4. Public Lewdness: I guess that's fair. It was his right to keep it hidden.
  5. The Head: She offered her head to Mina as long as she paid it back.
  6. Stole the Spotlight: Completely his fault. He dragged her up there, she said no, and he didn't care. (By the way, my favorite boss fight in the game).
  7. The Ladder: Fair. It wasn't her's, and Mina could have just asked to borrow it.
  8. Invaded the Graves: It had her name on it, though. Isn't it technically her's?
  9. Tree: Don't know about this part.
  10. Guarding the Music Hall: He was bad at his job. He deserved to get fired. Asshole.
  11. Frog: It was his request. Mina was just doing a favor.
  12. Bachelor: I guess that sucks.
  13. Blacksmith Brothers: Literally the complete opposite happened. The underground brother was already miffed. Mina was just the straw that broke the camel's back, and she RESOLVED that feud anyway.
  14. The Ice Ghost: Mina was completely kind and wanted to help her out. The ghost instigated her completely.
  15. Maxi: She attacked first, and was super spiteful too.
  16. Pretend Monsters aren't Real: LITERALLY FUCK OFF FOR THIS ONE. BOOHOO.
  17. Rich Lady: Even though she gave them to us, I do feel it is partially Mina's fault. Instead of just giving back the bones, she kept them, so this is fair.
  18. Breaking Street Lamps: Fair. They don't even give you anything. There's no reason to break them.
  19. Cyclist: Fair. It belonged to him. Mina shouldn't have taken it.
  20. Luxy: Literally asked to go there and was okay in the end. Honestly, I wish I never did.
  21. Breaking Candles: Fair, but less than the street lamps. The candles had items that could help Mina save Ossex.
  22. Duke: Asked to be buried, though I guess I can kind of see him being in the wrong headspace to make a decision like that.
  23. Took Credit for the Orphanage: God forbid a girl do a cute little curtsy.
  24. Teacher: The children dying to the Carving Man is very awful, but I feel Mina definitely would have done it if she knew where they were. I missed the goat only on my playthrough, and I wish I saved him.
  25. Shattered a Bottle: FFS IT WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE. Littering is bad of course but it was so far from the beach itself in a hidden area.
  26. Released Criminals: Mina could not have known, and you can defeat them anyway (unless they just run away. I only released one and I defeated him immediately).
  27. Hygiene: Literally covered in mud and attacked us. She was just pointing it out.
  28. Hollower's Guild: First off, we literally saved one of the members. Second, we're cool. Thirdly, I WAS LITERALLY DOING THE THING YOUR LEADER TOLD ME TO.
  29. Terrorized a Clown: We're chill. He's cool with us, I'm cool with him. Just got startled.
  30. Brain Guy: Asked us to give his brain back. Just made a mistake.
  31. Interrupting the Game: LITERALLY ASKED TO PLAY WITH THEM.
  32. Stared at a Telescope: COME ON, REALLY?
  33. Frayd: This one made me the angriest. HE'S A THIEF. HE STOLE FROM US, AND FOUND OUT. ABSOLUTELY DESERVED. I EVEN GAVE HIM THE 1000 BONES, AND WE WERE COOL. FUCK FRAYD. FAKEST MF

Again, I get these are meant to be frustrating, but I genuinely despise all of these people. I completely regret giving myself a restriction for the final level by not attacking the townspeople. I wish we had a scene of people coming to our defense. That's what Chrono Trigger did, which the scene clearly took inspiration from. Fuck Ossex, Fuck Lionel, Justice for Mina.

I think this is a newcomer idea that's very slept on. Not that I think it's likely, but I think Whitney and Miltank are potentially one of the most iconic fights in the franchise. I think she'd make for a fun Johto rep. that isn't just small Pikachu. Here are some alts. I made for her! The only real roadblock is the awkward utters + gen 2's spotlight being long gone.

I have tons of alt sets made, and I'm thinking about posting more, so if you want to see the other ones, let me know in the comments!

**EDIT** I accidentally posted the alt set where I said the Bugsy Miltank Alt was based on Heracross. It's based on Scizor.
