Seeking Support Coordination Mentorship

I'm reaching out to see if there are any support coordinators or providers who would be willing to mentor an aspiring support coordinator or offer relevant work experience.

I have 3 years of experience as a disability support worker, have a cert 3 in business admin (2021), and I'm currently studying the diploma of community services (case management). I've also completed DSC's entry-level intensive support coordination training and am committed to continuing to build my knowledge and skills.

I'm hoping to transition into support coordination and client services, and I'm looking for opportunities to learn from experienced professionals, whether that's through mentoring, shadowing, or an entry-level role.

I'm based in Adelaide's north-eastern suburbs but am happy to travel or work online for the right opportunity.

If you know of any providers looking to support someone who's eager to learn, I'd really appreciate hearing from you.

Thank you!

AITAH for shaming my bff for settling down; no shared hobbies or values.

My best friend Jane (21F) has been in a 7-year relationship with her high school sweetheart John(20M). He's her first love, but I’ve always felt like she was settling because she's inexperienced. There's rumors of a surprise engagement, though I genuinely fear for her marriage and their potential future kids. I really want her to stay in my life, she's practically my sister. Hear me out.

They share NO hobbies/interests, and while she acknowledges that, she always says she sees “potential” in him, not that he’s currently a great partner. When he's with his friends he agrees on alot of bigoted and racist "jokes" despite dating a woman of color (him and all his friend's are white - adds context) /having literal emphathy. She always excuses his behaviour, even after explaining how his remarks makes her uncomfortable they settled on him not bringing his friends around while she's at his place.

Personally, that’s a major red flag. Meanwhile, I’ve ended relationships early if I spotted signs like a lack of media literacy, political apathy, or refusal to learn. She says my standards are too high and that’s why none lasted long-term.And ykw shes right.

She claims that hobbies don’t matter because they “die over time.” Though I believe shared passions can help couples grow together, and it feels so great loving something wholeheartedly with someone else.

As an introverted woc who spends most of my spare time on gaming/anime she may have a fair point. Most guys I come across either match my hobbies or my values, never both. So maybe I should set my standards a little "lower". Though the idea of staying alone, becoming a cat lady and eventually adopting children sounds like pure bliss~

ANYWAYS, I may have overstepped by challenging her perspective, and it's causing a falling out. Am I missing something? Is emotional comfort and familiarity more sustainable than shared values or passion? Is “settling” a healthy part of long-term relationships? Any and all advice is appreciated. I really want her apart of my life.

TL;DR: I shamed my best friend for settling for her bigotted long-term boyfriend. They share no hobbies, no values, and (imo) is a closeted narcissist. She’s likely about to get engaged by end of this month, and I voiced my concerns. Now we’re falling out, and I’m wondering if I was out of line and need a fresh perspective.

DSW looking to move into Support Coordination

I'm a disability support worker with 3 years of experience supporting people with complex disabilities. This motivated me to explore support coordination or service delivery management, but I'm struggling to find a pathway in.

I've looked at the 2-day intensive training through DSC and some other short upskilling courses, but when I search for jobs their already scarce and all require previous experience. I haven't been able to find internships programs or volunteer opportunities either. I have a cert in in Individual Support and business admin.

I'm wondering if my best next step is to build my administrative experience first. Would learning and applying for rostering, scheduling, or NDIS administration roles make me a stronger candidate down the line?

I'm also considering a Diploma of Community Services (Case Management), but I've recently been shortlisted for a Child & Youth Worker traineeship, so I'm weighing up which path would provide the strongest long-term opportunities into similar roles.
