Seeking words of wisdom for newly diagnosed 17 yo daughter

I am looking for ways to inform my daughter about her ADHD while also providing support. I want her to know that she is struggling with a brain issue, not a personality issue.

I saw one quote recently that was something like: you have a racecar brain and bicycle brakes.

Anything similar that has helped your child? Any phrases that have helped you explain to your child what they are battling against?

Thanks in advance. 🙏

Seeking your best tips for Time Management, Homework Support, Room Organization

Newbie here. 17 yo daughter (high school senior) was just officially diagnosed recently. She will begin medication next week, and we are connecting with CBT therapist to begin soon. I am digging into research seeking to understand and to also see how I can best support.

I am eager to get some structures and systems in place at home to support in any way I can. But so far, so many tips seem to be focused on younger kids. Ex. It’s hard to allow for task mirroring when she won’t even come out of her room to see what I’m doing.

I know have lots to learn but in the meantime I thought I’d check in with parents of older teens to get some good tips.

Thanks in advance!
