I built an analytics tool to reverse-engineer TikTok viral patterns. (Founder here)

I was tired of guessing why my TikToks were flopping, so I built a tool to analyze posting patterns and hook structures that actually move the needle.

It’s just a side project I’m currently building: VoidRuns

Would love to hear any feedback from the community on the logic behind the metrics.

I analyzed 1,000+ TikToks to see what actually kills retention. Here is what I found.

I spent the last few weeks analyzing performance patterns in short-form content, specifically looking for the correlation between hook structures and retention rates.

After processing a dataset of over 1,000 videos, a few patterns stood out:

  • The 3-second rule: It’s not just about visual change; it’s about "information density" in the first 3 seconds.
  • Audio-Visual Mismatch: Videos where the audio pacing doesn't sync with the visual cut intensity drop retention by ~35% on average.
  • Posting Times: For smaller accounts, time of day matters significantly less than I expected compared to the hook quality itself.

I’m still iterating on the model. Has anyone else noticed similar patterns, or am I just looking at noise?
