We made our card-removal animation just… feeding the bad cards to a cute ransomware

Instead of a boring "delete" button, you remove cards by feeding the ones you don't want to the ransomware girl holding your files hostage. She's happy to help :)

It's called My Ransomware Can't Be This Cute, a press-your-luck deckbuilder where you flip cards instead of drawing them. Still in development!

We made a roguelike deckbuilder with NO hand, the deck sits face-down on a 4x4 grid you flip into. How does it sound?《My Ransomware Can't This Cute?!》

Flipping IS drawing. There's no hand in this game.

Quick context: This is a roguelike deckbuilder where parts of your deck gets dumped face-down onto a 4x4 grid.

Here's the niche I'm trying to carve out:

  • Bad cards are also in the deck. Brainlessly flipping everything hurts (a lot), so the play session becomes a balancing act between scoring ceiling and how much HP you're willing to bleed.
  • You need to build for information. Cards exist to scan neighbors, mark viruses, force-flip adjacent tiles. "Scouting your deck" is something you have to actively build toward, not something you're given.
  • You have to keep the board running. It will fill up (if your deck is more than 16 cards), so sometimes you have to discard to make room so new card can come in. Spatial arrangement is part of the game.
  • Yes, it scales exponentially. You score hundreds early, and millions eventually.

I know grid-based card flipping isn't brand new: Card Hog, Card Crawl, a handful of itch.io things come to mind. But most of those don't really let you build the deck you're flipping into. I'm trying to make full deckbuilding control + grid as the primary loop.

Would love to hear what you guys think.

(Game's called My Ransomware Can't Be This Cute?!. We got 2nd at the Very Big Indie Pitch recently, small validation that the idea has legs. If the concept clicks, wishlisting it on Steam helps a lot.)
