Pain in crowned tooth and surrounding gum for 3 days —Need advice
Hi everyone,
I have a dental crown that was placed in September 2025 on one of my upper front teeth. No root canal was done — the nerve is still alive.
3 days ago I suddenly developed pain in both the crowned tooth AND the surrounding gum. Here’s my situation:
• Pain level: 5/10, manageable with painkillers
• Ice pack on cheek gives relief
• No fever, no facial swelling
• No pain radiating to jaw or ear
• Gums look mildly red and inflamed
• No visible abscess bump
I am seeing a dentist Tuesday for exam and X-ray.
My questions:
1. Does this sound like an infection under the crown?
2. Could this be gingivitis or something simpler?
3. Do I likely need a root canal?
4. Should I go to emergency dentist sooner?
5. Is it normal for crowned teeth to develop pain 8 months later?
