Recruiting standards for throws: are they based on college implement weights?

Hi everyone,

I have a question about NCAA recruiting standards for throwing events and I’m a bit confused about how it actually works.

I keep seeing recruiting standards for shot put, discus, hammer, etc., but it seems like these are based on the college implement weights (for example 7.26kg hammer for men).

However, junior/international athlete are currently throwing different weights (for example I throw 5kg and 6kg hammer), and not even allowed to compete with the 7.26kg yet.

So my question is: How do coaches actually evaluate recruiting standards in throws if athletes are still using junior implements?

Do they convert junior results into an estimate for college weights?

I’ve read a lot of recruiting guides and standards online, but I still don’t fully understand how they translate internationally, especially for throwers who are not yet using senior weights.

Would really appreciate any clarification from coaches or athletes who have been through the recruiting process.

Thanks in advance.

PBs class of 2028

5kg hammer: 196 ft 0 in 6kg hammer: 173 ft 8 in

1.5kg discus: 155 ft 4 in

5kg shot put: 49 ft 2 in
