I want to get back into throwing

I threw javelin for 4 years in high school about a decade ago. I also dabbled in shot put and discus. For some reason I feel an urge to return to shot put. It was something I gave up trying to refine, mostly since javelin felt more natural at the time. Shot just feels like an accessible enough challenge for me to pursue.

Does anyone recreationally throw and have any tips for finding places to throw shot put? I understand I could probably just do it at a park or grass field, just wondering how recreational throwers manage beyond high school/collegiate athletics. Thanks

Anything to fix rn?

Practices have been consistent. I've put on 7ft this summer from 35ft glide switching to spin. Just need some guidance so I can throw farther! This was about 42 ft.

Hips

I’ve been told a lot recently about how I should lead my disc throws with my hips. I understand what it means, but I don’t know how to execute it. Don’t acknowledge my bad release on most of these throws the disc was very wet and made for a horrid release. Also my shot throws are including if you guys have any criticism on that please share. Thank you!

Any opportunities for middle schoolers?

Would love to get my kids throwing. Ages 9 and 11. I have done some web searching and can't find programs. North Atlanta.

Where can I find throwing shoes in Ontario

I’ve been calling stores and checking websites but nowhere carries throwing shoes besides Under Armour. Apparently those aren't good for someone learning rotational discus because they are meant for shot put gliders.
I really want to get the Nike Zoom Rival SD 2 in a Size 14. US sites have them (Canadian doesn’t), but I don't want to get hit with massive import fees.
Has anyone found a Canadian site or store that carries throwing shoes without having to pay import fees? Thanks!

High school discus thrower looking for technique feedback (67’ PB) 🥏

Hey everyone! I’m a high school thrower going into my junior year, and I started throwing discus this past season. My current PR is around 67 feet, and I’m looking for honest technique advice.
I know there’s a lot I need to improve, so don’t hold back. I’d appreciate any tips on my:
Footwork
Balance
Spin
Power position
Release
Finish
Anything else you notice
I just ordered my own discus, so I’ll be throwing consistently over the summer and want to build good habits before next season.
Thanks in advance for taking the time to help! Any drills, cues, or video recommendations are appreciated.

I categorized the rotational shot put technique into 4 different styles. I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Hi everyone,

I’m a hobbyist shot putter. I’ve always felt that the rotational technique could be clearly categorized into systematic styles, but I couldn't find any videos breaking it down that way. So, I decided to make one myself!

What do you guys think? Does this categorization make sense to you?

00:00 Style 1 "Turn to Turn"

01:22 Style 2 "Turn to Spin"

02:40 Style 3 "Turn to Flip"

03:57 Style 4 "Turn and Twist"

First time throwing discus in 3 months, definitely extreme rough. Should I do the same thing as I did with shotput and go back to step 1 and perfect stand throws first? Because my release and lack of seperation I feel is my biggest issues by a wide margin.

Things are starting to make a little more sense I feel a little more confident in my stance but still struggling with my release

Thanks to you guys on reddit I’ve actually been throwing with intent for these past few weeks, figuring out what is wrong right after I throw has started to become way more clear to me, and it might not look like much but I definitely do feel myself getting way better and distance becoming a little farther, it will be a slow process, but I know I can do it

Haven't throw for a while. How's it looking

Had issue with my right foot not getting wide out the back. I kinda forgot about how I should move right out the back as well. Any tips?
