Needed a dedicated compact tool carrier with high hydraulic flow to clear overgrown land, so I designed and built this rig from the ground up.
The carrier: Mercedes G-Wagon rigid axles, 4x4, full hydrostatic drive, custom CAN-bus / ESP32 digital telemetry.
The deck: 83" cut width, Hardox mono-rotor blade running on a machined heavy-duty axle spindle.
The lift system: 2:1 cable multiplier powered by a hydraulic ram with a nitrogen accumulator for floatation over rough ground.
Just took it out for the first brutal test in thick brush. Everything held together.
Needed a brutal brush cutter that wouldn't fold on hidden stumps, so I fabricated this:
Frame & Structure: Strenx S700 high-strength steel.
Skin / Deck: S500 plate.
Welding: ESAB AristoRod 69 wire for high-tensile joint strength.
Spindle: Lathe-turned shaft with heavy tapered roller bearings.
Drive: Direct-driven by Rexroth hydraulics.
Rig: Mounted on an articulated Bucher frame with locked Mercedes G-Wagon solid axles.
Survived brutal testing in thick overgrowth without bending. Full build video in progress—happy to answer any metal, welding, or geometry questions!
