Revenant: Herald, Vindicator, or...?

I've been getting into Revenant lately and am currently collecting hero points, but I'm wondering what's a good first espec for someone who mainly does open world and story, but is kind of bad at the game. I'm open to most builds and playstyles, tho as an edgelord, I like Shiro and Mallyx.

Sorry for the uninteresting question, but I wanted to ask in a place where I'd get a couple of answers.

I do know about trying out especs in the PvP lobby, but I'm too small-brained to get a good feeling for anything out of that.

True Samuel Haight facts!

Samuel didn't read books. He stared them down until they gave him the information he wanted.
The flu got a Samuel Haight shot every year.
If Samuel had traveled to an alternate dimension so there were two Samuel Haights, and they fought, they both would have won.
Samuel's tears would have been able to cure cancer. Too bad he never cried.
Caine checked his closet for Samuel Haight every morning.

Is Mechanist THAT popular?

Or am I just biased to seeing engineers and mechanists because I tried the profession recently myself with the goal of getting into the espec, and because the mech is hard to miss?

Sorry if that's a frequently brought up topic, I'm not active on this subreddit because I only recently started really getting into the game and couldn't find anything recent using the search function.

Does a Revenant player character even make sense without skipping the core story?

I'm big on immersion and to my understanding (I haven't played HoT yet, just read some stuff on the internet while researching lore bits about the different classes and specs), the expansion that introduced the class made a big deal of Rytlock being the first, reappearing with the knowledge two years after the defeat of Zhaitan.

Altoholic looking at Soldier professions and curious about others experiences

I have a Mesmer and a Necromancer at level 80 and both fairly far into Season 1 of Living world, but I feel myself yearning for a class that pulls of an armor look (while still being fun).

Normally I'd like to have a bit of magic in the mix, so warrior doesn't interest me much, but both Guardian and Revenant do. I don't know much about these classes, aside from their wiki entries and that they're on opposite ends of the popularity spectrum. So, while I'm looking at playing the early levels of both, I'd like to know about the experience of people on higher levels and maybe even a few expacs and especs in.

Why do you like or dislike Guardian? Why do you like or dislike Revenant?

In Dark Heresy, you will spend a chapter in the Screaming Vortex. Source: It was revealed to me in a dream.

Actually not a dream, I've just got this impression from Wrath of the Righteous and Rogue Trader that Owlcat really likes to have us navigate a hostile center of power.

For those who don't know, the Screaming Vortex is one of the permanent warpstorms that make passage from the Calixis Sector to the Koronus Expanse so hard. It has thriving realms of heretics inside it and I swear I remember something about the Tyrant Star sometimes showing up inside it.
