Bowing Out of the Community

I’m posting this mainly to vent but also to see if anyone else feels the same

First and foremost: I’ve been riding for 7 years now, put about 40k miles in across 6 different motorcycles, and own both sport bikes and cruisers in southern New Hampshire

When I started riding I was in my early 20’s and was excited to feel a part of the community - I’m an only child that attended private school until high school so not too many friends to be had or made. So I’d go out to different meetups and bike nights and make friends with people. I’d wave when passing other bikers. Id hold convos with other riders at gas stations. I never did a group ride but I’d go to charity rides and peel out before everyone got to riding. It was awesome

But, by the time 2023 rolled around, I noticed a sharp decline in this community. Nothing changed on my end but bike nights started slimming out, less people waved, and less people would be willing to chat at the gas station or at a coffee shop

Now we’re at a point where most riders don’t even agcknowledge me. I wave, dont get waves back. I stop for riders who are pulled over, they dont stop for me. If I pull up next to someone at a light and give them the ol’ “nice bike” they straight up ignore me. Over the last few years it appears as the community has decreased and there is now a layer of elitism woven within whatever is left of the “community”

For the record, nothing has changed about me or my bikes for that matter. When on my sport bike, other riders try to race me on open roads, and on my Harley, the South Park episode is extremely accurate for the type of people that approach me, if any.

Ive always been a bit of a lone-wolf but I’ve decided to entirely bow-out from the community. I’m not going to bike nights, meets, coffee and bikes. I’m not even waving. I hope everybody makes it home safe and I don’t look down or up to any other riders. We’re all human at the end of the day, and I’m sure no better than anyone else. Just sad to see the death of the community, and conversely, the turn from what once was a welcoming community to now being a pack of elitists and main-characters. Thoughts?

Edit: I obviously ride because I love riding lol I didn’t spend $35k on two bikes to be part of a group, I spent it to ride. But let’s not lie, the communal aspect was a huge bonus

The amount of random aggressive encounters I’ve had is staggering - people that flip me off if I wave, ignore me in communal spaces, and are otherwise rude. I cant even pass another biker if im going 5mph over the speed limit without them trying to rev-bomb or pace match… are you 12?
