I miss the social aspect of McDonalds
Maybe its because I grew up in the 70's when McDonald's was a treat, the employees were locals, every customer knew every other customer. I remember being flabbergasted (how's that for old geezer speak) when I walked into a McDonald's with no one at the counter and and shiny new, order kiosks standing standing ready to take my order. I didn't see pancakes on the order menu so the manager condescendingly huffed as he waddled over to inform me that hotcakes were available as a "platter" item. Need ketchup, forget about it. You have to ask someone behind the McCafe`fence. Makes me feel like I'm at the zoo.
Today I go to my local McDonald's and no greeting, no thank you, no interaction to make a drive thru payment, just a credit card reader stuck outside the window. When I reach the pick-up window I'm handed my sad little brown bag with my sad hamburger inside. Again, no greeting, no thank you, no how are you today. About the same level of social interaction as working with the Kiosk.
I sure do miss those orange drink bubbler machines McDonald's used to let out to community events, back when they McDonald's was part of the local community.
