Our power in Lee’s Summit has been out since around 11:00 PM Wednesday night. Is anyone else in the KC area still without power? Have you received any updates on the cause or estimated restoration time?
The Gen 2 WiFi Doorbell setup is overly complicated and already has some weird product-design decisions.
- Existing mechanical chime works, but requires a separate purchase of RLA-PK1
- Doorbell has continuous wired power, but doesn't continuously record unless you meet the specific requirements.
- I already have a Reolink NVR with 12 TB of storage
- Continuous recording still requires a microSD card
- Continuous recording to the NVR is not supported, only motion and doorbell press
- Documents mention later updates include RTSP/ONVIF, but will require a Home Hub. Docs do not include the NVR, which seems like a poor product-design decision IMO
The Nirvana setup should be:
- Wired doorbell, battery backup
- Existing chime (include the RLA-PK1 with the doorbell)
- Continuous recording to Reolink NVR or HomeHub
- Direct local RTSP/ONVIF
- Home Assistant integration
- No microSD card required, but optional for backup.
For a continuously powered doorbell, these should be standard capabilities rather than separate hardware purchases and feature restrictions. I kept mine in hopes one day reolink will get the firmware updated.
