Why does BMD and others hate on 1440p?

I glanced over the new BMD UltraStudio Mini lineup and was quite pleased to see that they were competitively priced but somewhat bulky compared to other 4K60 solutions out there.

What I can't wrap my head around is why they don't support 1440p? I want to switch to a 2560x1440 canvas in OBS and switch to 1440p60 streaming, converting my old 1080p60 workflow. Examining the specs everywhere, including my Atomos Ninja, there is no in-between 1080p60 and 2160p60.

Is this just because 1440p is a some fringe PC standard and not a broadcast standard?

Who can relate?

I made this "meme" reel the other day. In hindsight I just wanted to convey that I enjoy the games we have and I'm happy where we're at. It's the best time to be alive as an aging shmup fan. We've seen it all and our favorite games are available everywhere.

Dark Chaos blurs the line of homebrew and factory game.

I had a chat with the maker, Dan Massie at Golden State Pinball Festival. Dark Chaos went from a VPX to the real thing.

I just got the UNICO Raiden marketed to me, https://www.unico-usa.com/products/nova-blast-candy-cab-u3-raiden

I'm very supportive of their efforts in building 4:3 monitors for arcade fans with bad backs.

The new thing here is that they're shipping an entire cab with games built-in, the entire Raiden series to be specific.

Now, since the RF series have absolute terrible ports and emulation, does anyone know what hardware/software these things ship with?

I've enjoyed hundreds of hours of recording 4K60 and sometimes 1080p60 on my Ninja 5" (both ProRes HQ).

Last week I was recording in a somewhat warmer room than usual. The Ninja hit a black screen and froze about 10-15 minutes into the recording. I adjusted the cooling mode to turbo and it seem to have fixed it.

Here I updated to the latest firmware (unknown which I had before).

Yesterday while recording the Ninja stopped recording randomly after 20 minutes, corrupted the file and somehow marked the SSD as full (the record button was greyed out). I fixed the file and could continue to record an hour afterwards without issue.

Has the Ninja's best before date expired? I'm so bummed out I can't trust it now and it's my favorite piece of gear in my kit. 😓
