GT Edge Aero
Mild restomod on a NOS frame. Ultegra shifters, derailleurs, and brakes, FSA Gossamer crankset, FSA carbon handlebars and stem.
For as light and aggressive as it is, it rides surprisingly easy.

Just wrapped this one up. I had to keep reminding myself that late 90s are now “vintage.” I love vintage aero framed bikes especially the stuff Tienmeyer was putting out at the time. Yes, today’s stuff is more aerodynamic but it almost none of it looks aero.
Got a screaming deal on the components via eBay and was able to run an almost complete 2x9 Ultegra setup. I went with an FSA gossamer crankset and a set of Shimano clipless that I had in the parts bin. The Fizik Arione wing is my favorite saddle so of course it went on. It’s all FSA carbon in the cockpit and an Amazon special carbon front fork that was surprisingly high quality.
Sadly, I’m a bit too tall to ride this as anything other than a race bike (and I’m not competitive enough to really put myself through all of that) but it is a surprisingly comfortable ride.
Depending on our schedules, I’ll occasionally have all three kids by myself. I needed some way to have all three kids on a bike ride longer than a couple miles. Once I remembered to teach my oldest to lean with me into the turns, it became a very smooth ride
This actually works really well, and the tag-along fits nicely on the back rack. My bike is steel (and yes, I put way too much effort into a Huffy) and the tag-along is steel and they used a single continuous loop for the chain stay/seat stay/drop out mount so it’s plenty strong.
I can either have all three kids for a killer workout/longer ride or my oldest can ride her bike and I can split the younger two up to prevent fights.
Unsurprisingly, towing a hundred+ pounds of kids makes for a killer workout.
A little more resto than mod, but still enough there I think. Shimano 600 tricolor almost across the board but I needed some reach on the calipers. Those are Shimano 500s, a lesser known steel caliber but they look cool and have a longer arm.
The downtube shifters are a holdover from when I wanted this to be a full Eroica build. It turns out that I freaking love downtube shifters.
I’m at risk of having 700x32 become my signature tire choice, and honestly I’m okay with that.
Found this group via google search. I’ve always loved the restomod concept; glad other people like to build bikes like this.
After almost twenty years of not riding, I had the classic midlife crisis moment and decided to sign up for a sprint triathlon. After finishing the race I realized how much I missed riding and that a clapped out 29er was not going to scratch the itch. I had a Schwinn hybrid but I never enjoyed riding it.
It took a little bit but eventually I found this.
The previous owner had already converted it over to a road bike and was running old school 27x1.25s. It rode so great though, and for $40 I couldn’t say no. I got it home and went a little crazy. Lipstick on a pig definitely comes to mind.
The one thing I liked about the Schwinn was the gearing and the wheels. The setup covers almost 85% of the riding I do and dropping down into the granny gearing makes towing the kids up a hill enjoyable. For me, the 622x19 rims with 700x32 tires just work. They’re fast and smooth and feel very sure footed.
The front derailleur is Shimano of some kind, the rear is Tourney, all connected to 3x7 Tourney shifters.
Is it a 90s Huffy of questionable quality? Yes. Does it put a smile on my face every time I ride it? Also yes.
