Can you put a down firing subwoofer on its side?

I recently moved into the upper floor of a 2 family home. I have a 5.1 Vizio surround sound setup for my tv, and the subwoofer is down firing. I was thinking if I laid the subwoofer on its side, it would likely be less noisy and noticeable for our downstairs neighbors. Would this damage the subwoofer at all or have a large Impact sound quality?

I don't typically crank the sound system up super loud, but I just want to be considerate of our landlords downstairs lol.
