Cousin that owns a 2025 BMW M3 Competition XDrive that talked trash about Tesla...
So I have a cousin that is a die-hard BMW fan, he's been buying nothing but BMW performance cars and SUVs now for the last decade. He came to California last week to visit, I told him I bought a 2025 M3P last year and it was sitting outside (he hadn't seen it yet). He initially scoffed saying he had a BMW EV (i7 I think) and found that he was always charging and that he paid more for charging than he would have gas and didn't see any advantage to owning an EV so he sold it and bought a BMW M3 Competition XDrive and showed me some photos of it (it does look bad ass) and bragged about how fast it was.
Well I offered him a small bet: I'd take him on a drive right away in my M3P, show him all the features including FSD, supercharging, Tesla App, Grok, the cars performance/handling and then he could decide at the end of the ride if he still feels the same way about Tesla.
As he got inside the car, he remarked, "your car looks different than other Tesla's I've been inside" noting the leather interior and lighting that was in sync with the music. He was also instantly impressed with the sound system.
I fired up Grok and asked it to set destination for the nearest supercharger and since he was interested in purchasing a home in California (to rent out), I asked Grok to also continue on to the new housing development 40 miles away after charging. He saw Grok set the destination in realtime and was genuinely impressed and said he had no idea Tesla's could do this.
I told him to hit the button on the screen to activate FSD and he saw the car instantly react and start driving. As he saw the car maneuvering through traffic, stops and zipping through lanes (I always use madmax), he said the car was driving better than most people and coudln't believe how good FSD was.
Once we got to the supercharger, I started charging and he was genuinely surprised at how easy it was using NACs and that the charging door opened and closed on it's own (these little things we all take for granted). Once he saw the full charging price (keep in mind CA is considered expensive) he was blown away and said how cheap it was compared to how much he paid for BMW charging. I told him that Tesla owners pay a lot less than 3rd party chargers and even 3rd party cars at Tesla chargers.
Anyhow, after the car finished charging, I got on the highway and FLOORED it without giving him any warning and he fell back to his seat and yelled out, "HOLY SHIT!" as I accelerated to 100 mph in seconds. I asked him, "so how's it compare to your BMW?" and he said he could tell the iniital acceleration was faster. We're both care enthusiast so we know on a track that M3 would probably eventually outrun the M3P due to how the battery gets hot but still, the M3P also costs a lot less and has way more features and he acknowledged that.
On the way there, he kept talking to Grok and asking it to compare Tesla to BMW and of course it kept selling him on the idea of Tesla so we got a good laugh at it being a salesman. Eventually, FSD got us to our destination and parked there perfectly. By then, he was convinced and said he was going to sell his BMW SUV at home and get a Model Y for commutes to work and that he'd be using FSD + Grok daily.
TLDR: Skeptical BMW die-hard cousin was taken on a drive in a 2025 M3P and by the end of the ride, was sold on Tesla.
